Le Havre Seine Métropole is the ''communauté urbaine'', an intercommunal structure, centred on the city of Le Havre. It is located in the Seine-Maritime department, in the Normandy region, northwestern France. It was created on 1 January 2019 by the merger of the former Agglomeration community of Le Havre and the communautés de communes Canton de Criquetot-l'Esneval and Caux Estuaire. Le Havre
Le Havre (, ; nrf, Lé Hâvre ) is a port city in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region of northern France. It is situated on the right bank of the estuary of the river Seine on the Channel southwest of the Pays de Caux, very close to the Prime Meridian. Le Havre is the most populous commune of Upper Normandy, although the total population of the greater Le Havre conurbation is smaller than that of Rouen. After Reims, it is also the second largest subprefecture in France. The name ''Le Havre'' means "the harbour" or "the port". Its inhabitants are known as ''Havrais'' or ''Havraises''. The city and port were founded by King Francis I in 1517. Economic development in the Early modern period was hampered by religious wars, conflicts with the English, epidemics, and storms. Cauville-sur-Mer (, literally ''Cauville on Sea'') is a commune in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region in northern France. Geography A farming village situated in the Pays de Caux, some northeast of Le Havre, at the junction of the D940 and D311 roads and on the coast of the English Channel. The cliffs here reach up to over 100 metres in height. Gonfreville-l'Orcher () is a Communes of France, commune in the Seine-Maritime Departments of France, department in the Normandy (administrative region), Normandy Regions of France, region in northern France. Geography An light industry, industrial town based around an ancient village situated in the Pays de Caux, some east of Le Havre, in between the D982 and D9015 roads. The A131 autoroute cuts through the middle of the commune alongside the banks of the Tancarville canal. Fontaine-la-Mallet
Fontaine-le-Mallet () is a commune in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region in northern France. History The first mention of the village dates from the eleventh century, when an abbess from Montivilliers bought of land in order to build a church here "in villa dicitur Fontenais ad opus ecclesiae Sancta Mariae". In a register of the Secretariat of the Archdiocese of Rouen, dating from 1479 to 1480, it mentions "Parochia Fontibus le Mallet" - Mallet coming from the name of the first seigneurs - the Malet de Graville family (c. 1200–1300). Fontaine-la-Mallet grew over the centuries and was all but destroyed by bombing in September 1944. It was the most badly affected village of the lower Seine. Rebuilding of the commune was started in the 1960s. Étretat
Étretat () is a commune in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region of Northwestern France. It is a tourist and farming town situated about northeast of Le Havre, at the junction of the D 940, D 11 and D 139 roads. It is located on the coast of the Pays de Caux area. In 2017, it had a population of 1,291. The cliffs Étretat is best known for its chalk cliffs, including three natural arches and a pointed formation called ''L'Aiguille'' or the Needle, which rises above the sea. The Etretat Chalk Complex, as it is known, consists of a complex stratigraphy of Turonian and Coniacian chalks. Some of the cliffs are as high as . These cliffs and the associated resort beach attracted artists including Eugène Boudin, Charles Daubigny, Gustave Courbet and Claude Monet.
