Somjit Jongjohor
Somjit Jongjohor ( th, สมจิตร จงจอหอ, , ; born January 19, 1975) is an amateur Thai boxer best known for winning gold medals in the flyweight division at the 2003 World Amateur Boxing Championships and at the Beijing 2008 Olympics. Career Somjit won the Asian Games 2002. In the 2003 World Amateur Boxing Championships final in his home country he beat Frenchman Jérôme Thomas, who went on to win Olympic silver in 2004. At the Olympics 2004, Somjit had bad luck with the draw and was outpointed by Cuban eventual winner Yuriorkis Gamboa. At the 2005 World Amateur Boxing Championships he was surprised in his first match by Cuban southpaw Andry Laffita and lost 14:16. In 2005 he also competed for Thailand at the Boxing World Cup in Moscow, Russia, winning both his matches in the preliminary round. Boxing at the 2006 Asian Games took place in the Academy for Sports Excellence (ASPIRE) in Sports City, 8 kilometers to the west of Doha. Andry Laffita
Andry Laffita Fernández (born March 26, 1978) is a retired Cuban amateur boxer. He won the silver medal at the 2005 World Amateur Boxing Championships. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, he won a silver medal in the flyweight class. Career In 1996 Laffita won the world junior championship. From 1999 to 2001 he was suspended for use of steroids. Laffita rose to prominence after Olympic champion Yuriorkis Gamboa moved out of his weight class. During the 2005 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Mianyang, China Laffita defeated Somjit Jongjohor, Violito Payla, Juan Carlos Payano, Jérôme Thomas and Mirat Sarsembayev to reach the final. He lost to Lee Ok-Sung, winning the silver medal. In 2006 and 2007 he was beaten by compatriot Yoandri Salinas in the national championships. Yuriorkis Gamboa Toledano (born 23 December 1981) is a Cuban professional boxer. He is a former unified featherweight world champion, having held the WBA and IBF titles between 2009 and 2011, as well as the WBA interim championship in both the super featherweight and lightweight divisions. Jérôme Cedric Thomas (born 20 January 1979) is a French former boxer, he competed in the flyweight (– 51 kg) division as an amateur and as a bantamweight as a professional. Amateur boxing career Thomas won the world championship at the 2001 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He was runner-up in 2003 losing to Somjit Jongjohor. The 22nd edition of the Men's Asian Amateur Boxing Championships were held from January 11 to January 18, 2004 in Puerto Princesa Coliseum, Puerto Princesa, Philippines. The tournament served as a qualification event for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.
