Sofus Madsen
Sofus Trygve Madsen (June 11, 1881 – January 19, 1977) was a Norwegians, Norwegian sculptor that has influenced the cityscape of Bergen with a total of 28 major and minor works. He was the son of the teacher and author Theodor Madsen. Life and work Madsen was born in Oslo, Kristiania (now Oslo), but his family moved to Bergen when he was three years old. He studied under the sculptor Ingebrigt Vik and mostly worked as a stucco artist at that time. Madsen received his artistic education at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and continued his education in Berlin and Paris before settling in Bergen in 1914. Together with Anders Svor he participated in the Art competitions at the 1924 Summer Olympics, 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris with two sculptures. He settled on Kanonhaugen Street in the Landås neighborhood of Bergen, in a house and studio that he designed himself. In 1999, the Sofus Madsen Museum opened in the house. Theodor Madsen
Hans Mathias Theodor Jacob Madsen (January 14, 1858 – November 5, 1935) was a Norwegians, Norwegian writer. Madsen debuted with the novel ''I Drift'' (In Operation) in 1890. Most of his works are written in the Naturalism (literature), Naturalist style. Madsen was the father of the sculptor Sofus Madsen and the brother of the opera singer Ina Madsen. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. Landås
Landås is a neighbourhood in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. Landås is located by the western side of the Ulriken mountain massif, from southeast of Haukeland University Hospital to the neighborhood of Nattland almost further south. It was the last part of the historic Årstad municipality to be urbanised, with the development of Landås taking place mainly after World War II. The Faculty of Education of Bergen University College is located in Landås. Anders Svor
Anders Svor (December 14, 1864 – May 2, 1929) was a Norwegian sculptor. He was a realist influenced by Romanticism, and Auguste Rodin was also an important inspiration. His work was also part of the sculpture event in the art competition at the 1924 Summer Olympics. Life Svor was a farmer's son, the child of Rasmus Kristofer Svor (1835–1914) and Ragnhild Svor née Seljeset (1834–1902). He was born and raised at the Svor farm in Hornindal. Already as a boy he showed unusual abilities in wood carving, which would be the start of his artist life. At the age of 17, he traveled to Kristiania (now Oslo), where he began as a woodcutter at the Hals Brothers piano factory.
