Slotervaart (neighborhood)
Slotervaart (short for ''Tuinstad Slotervaart'') is a neighborhood in the far western part of Amsterdam, Netherlands. The area is named after the canal Slotervaart; the first houses were built in 1955. Just outside the residential area there is a hospital, the Slotervaartziekenhuis (since 1976), and the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) (since 1979). Since 1990 Slotervaart was a part of the urban district of Slotervaart-Overtoomse Veld, which was renamed in 2004 as shortly Slotervaart. North Holland
North Holland ( nl, Noord-Holland, ) is a province of the Netherlands in the northwestern part of the country. It is located on the North Sea, north of South Holland and Utrecht, and west of Friesland and Flevoland. In November 2019, it had a population of 2,877,909 and a total area of , of which is water. From the 9th to the 16th century, the area was an integral part of the County of Holland. During this period West Friesland was incorporated. Amsterdam Nieuw-West () is a borough (Dutch: ''stadsdeel'') comprising the westernmost neighbourhoods of the city of Amsterdam, Netherlands. It was created in 2010 after a merger of the former boroughs Osdorp, Geuzenveld-Slotermeer and Slotervaart. In 2017, the borough had almost 150,000 inhabitants. Central European Time (CET) is a standard time which is 1 hour ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). The time offset from UTC can be written as UTC+01:00. Canal
Canals or artificial waterways are waterways or engineered channels built for drainage management (e.g. flood control and irrigation) or for conveyancing water transport vehicles (e.g. water taxi). They carry free, calm surface flow under atmospheric pressure, and can be thought of as artificial rivers. Slotervaartziekenhuis was a hospital in the Slotervaart neighbourhood of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It went into administration in October 2018, and was closed within days. History It was founded in 1975 as a municipal general hospital. It was privatised in July 1997, but was run by a not-for-profit foundation. Netherlands Cancer Institute
The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) in Amsterdam was founded in 1913 by, among others, the surgeon Jacob Rotgans. The NKI, together with the Antoni van Leeuwenhoekziekenhuis, is formed into the NKI-AVL, which combines a scientific research institute with a specialized clinic focused on combating the disease cancer. Since 1973 the NKI is located next to the Slotervaartziekenhuis in Amsterdam. NKI is a member of EU-LIFE, an alliance of leading life sciences research centres in Europe. Urban Districts Of The Netherlands
A stadsdeel (; pl. ''stadsdelen''; lit. ''city part'') is the name used for urban or municipality districts in some of the larger municipalities of the Netherlands. Amsterdam calls 7 of its 8 '' deelgemeenten'' ''stadsdeel''. They form a level of government, both executive (''stadsdeelwethouders'') and legislative (''Stadsdeelraad'', a council elected by the inhabitants), and can therefore be regarded as boroughs or ''wards''.
