Sisyphus (album)
''Sisyphus'' is the debut studio album by Sisyphus, a collaborative project between Serengeti, Son Lux, and Sufjan Stevens. It was released through Asthmatic Kitty on March 18, 2014. The project was commissioned by the Walker Art Center and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra's ''Liquid Music'' series to accompany an exhibition of the work of visual artist Jim Hodges, scheduled to run from February 14 through May 11, 2014. Music videos were made for "Calm It Down", "Alcohol", "Booty Call", and "Take Me". Critical reception At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average score out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 64, based on 17 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews." Jeremy D. Larson of ''Pitchfork'' gave the album a 6.2 out of 10, saying: "More often than not, ''Sisyphus'' misses its mark, but the album's dense, melancholy back half represents its strongest moments." Sisyphus (hip Hop Group)
Sisyphus (formerly S / S / S) is a collaborative project between Serengeti (rapper), Serengeti, Ryan Lott (under the moniker Son Lux) and Sufjan Stevens. History The trio released their debut EP, ''Beak & Claw'', on Anticon in 2012. It features vocal contributions from Shara Worden and Doseone. In 2013 the trio changed their name to Sisyphus. In an interview, Stevens said, "S/S/S started to sound like the Schutzstaffel, Nazi Schutzstaffel with a lisp, so we had to change it." The name is inspired in part by the art of Jim Hodges (artist), Jim Hodges, whose work is featured on the cover of their self-titled debut full-length album, which was released on March 18, 2014. Stevens says the "gold and metallic boulders Jim made were an obvious influence on our name change"—a reference to four steel-clad boulders installed at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. Metacritic
Metacritic is a website that review aggregator, aggregates reviews of films, TV shows, music albums, video games and formerly, books. For each product, the scores from each review are averaged (a weighted arithmetic mean, weighted average). Metacritic was created by Jason Dietz, Marc Doyle, and Julie Doyle Roberts in 1999. The site provides an excerpt from each review and hyperlinks to its source. A color of green, yellow or red summarizes the critics' recommendations. It is regarded as the foremost online review aggregation site for the video game industry. Metacritic's scoring converts each review into a percentage, either mathematically from the mark given, or what the site decides subjectively from a qualitative review. Top Heatseekers are "Breaking and Entering" music charts issued weekly by ''Billboard'' magazine. The Heatseekers Albums and the Heatseekers Songs charts were introduced by ''Billboard'' in 1991 with the purpose of highlighting the sales by new and developing musical recording artists. Albums and songs appearing on Top Heatseekers may also concurrently appear on the ''Billboard'' 200 or ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Rafiq Bhatia (born 21 August 1987) is an American musician, composer, guitarist, and producer. He is the guitarist and fellow producer of the American experimental rock band Son Lux, having been a touring member prior. As a solo artist, he has recorded three solo albums ''Yes it Will'' (2012), ''Strata'' (2012), and ''Breaking English'' (2018). Bhatia has also worked with musicians Olga Bell, Sam Dew, Dave Douglas, Marcus Gilmore, Billy Hart, Heems, Helado Negro, Vijay Iyer, Glenn Kotche, Valgeir Sigurðsson, Moses Sumney, and David Virelles. David Michael Stith is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who released his first album ''Heavy Ghost'' in 2009 on the Asthmatic Kitty label. He currently resides in Brooklyn, New York. David Stith comes from a musical family: his father was a college wind ensemble director and former church choir director; his grandfather is professor emeritus in the music department at Cornell University; his mother is a pianist; and his sisters sing opera and play piano and percussion. Stith began working on an MFA in graphic design at Indiana University's Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Art in 2008, although he did not complete it. Rob Moose (born 1982) is an American multi-instrumentalist, arranger, producer, conductor, and orchestrator. He primarily plays the violin, viola, and guitar. Early life and education Moose was born in 1982. He was raised in Windsor, Connecticut and learned piano and violin at The Hartt School. He attended the Loomis Chaffee School through 10th grade, before moving with his family to Moorestown, New Jersey. He completed high school at Moorestown Friends School, graduating in 2000. Moose studied violin at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.
