Sirimevan Ranasinghe
Admiral Sirimevan Sarathchandra Ranasinghe, Weera Wickrama Vibhushanaya, WWV, Rana Wickrama Padakkama, RWP, Uttama Seva Padakkama, USP is a retired Sri Lankan admiral and the former Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy. Early life and education Ranasinghe received his education from St. Joseph's College, Anuradhapura and the Anuradhapura Central College. He holds an MPhil in Defence and Strategic Studies from the University of Madras and a Master of Science, Msc in War Studies and Defence Management from the National Defence University, Pakistan. Naval career He enlisted in the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet in its 11th Intake on 15 November 1982, undergoing basic training at the Naval and Maritime Academy, Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee, where he was adjudged the best cadet and selected for an international midshipmen course at the Britannia Royal Naval College, Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, which he attended between 1984 and 1985. INS Venduruthy
INS Venduruthy is an Indian Navy base located on Willingdon Island in Kochi, Kerala. It serves as the Headquarters of the Southern Naval Command. It is the largest training establishment of the Indian Navy. INS Garuda is a naval air station located adjacent to INS Venduruthy. Commodore Deepak Kumar is the Commanding officer of this base. Fast Attack Flotilla
The 4th Fast Attack Flotilla (aka ''Dvora Squadron'') is a force element flotilla of the Sri Lanka Navy. The flotilla's mission is to provide heavily armed and fast patrol boat (called fast attack craft or FACs) capability to counter sea tiger movements along the coast and to protect naval and civilian shipping from sea tiger suicide crafts. History The flotilla was formed in the early 1980s with the fast patrol boats to counter LTTE gun running in the Palk Strait from India. With escalation of the Sri Lankan Civil War the Sea Tigers began to pose a threat to the patrol boats of the Navy, with use of small fibreglass boats armed with machine guns.
