Singapore National Basketball Team
The Singapore men's national basketball team is the national team for Singapore in basketball. It is managed by the ''Basketball Association of Singapore'' (BAS), formerly the Singapore Amateur Basketball Association (SABA). At the Asian Basketball Championship, the country had its greatest success between 1971 and 1993 when it qualified for 12 straight events. Since 2001, the team has been one of the contenders at the Southeast Asian Basketball Championship. There, the team has won two bronze medals to date. In 1956, the team qualified for the Summer Olympics where it finished ahead of Asian rivals South Korea and Thailand. Basketball Association Of Singapore
The Basketball Association of Singapore (BAS) is the governing body of basketball in Singapore. History Basketball was introduced to Singapore as early as 1925 and was played in schools. The Singapore Basketball and Volleyball Association was established in 1934 to further promote the sport and the organization was responsible for organizing the Malaysia and Singapore Basketball Championship. The association was later replaced in 1939 by the Chinese Sports Improvement Council, which was considered by the Basketball Association of Singapore to be the first instance of its organization. After the resolution of the World War II in 1946 which affected the promotion of basketball, Goh Chye Hin set up the Singapore Amateur Basketball Association (SABA). Wei Long Wong
Wong Wei Long (, born 18 August 1988 in Singapore) is a Singaporean professional basketball player. With his ability to knockdown the three ball at a high percentage, he has earned the nicknames of the Long-ranger and the Singapore Assassin. ABL career In 2008, Wei Long had a brief stint with the Singapore Slingers while the team was competing in the 2008/09 Singapore Challenge Series. On August 2009, Wei Long signed a one-year contract to play for the Singapore Slingers along with 7 other local players. 1963 ABC Championship
The 1963 ABC Championship was the second edition of the ABC Championship, a tournament which was held by FIBA Asia since 1960. The tournament which was held in Taipei, Taiwan saw eight teams compete (an expansion of one team) in a round-robin tournament with the top four teams qualifying through to the championship round where they played each other again one more time. The bottom four teams would compete in a classification round. The tournament saw the first tie-breaker matches to be played with Thailand defeating Malaya to book a spot in the championship round. In the championship round, the Philippines and Taiwan finish level with an 8–2 record. This meant that they had to play in a play-off to decide the champion which was played on December 3. Malaysia Men's National Basketball Team
The Malaysia men's national basketball team represents Malaysia at international basketball competitions. It is organized and run by the Malaysia Basketball Association (MABA). (Malay: ''Persatuan Bola Keranjang Malaysia'') The team had its prime time between 1960 and 1995 when it qualified for the FIBA Asia Championship, Asia's most prestigious basketball tournament, 18 times in a row. In 1986 it qualified for the World Cup, its most noteworthy accomplishment to date. Petronas is the major sponsor for MABA. The women's national team has more successes internationally compared to the men's counterpart. Outlook In Malaysia, the sport is predominantly played by people with Chinese background, hence the majority of the national team players have Chinese names. The tournament which was held in Manila, Philippines saw seven teams compete in a round-robin tournament with the top four teams qualifying through to the final round where they played each other again one more time. In the final round, the Philippines took out the title as they won all nine of their games to come out the winners. The 2011 Southeast Asian Games, ( id, Pesta Olahraga Asia Tenggara 2011) officially known as the 26th Southeast Asian Games, or the 26th SEA Games, and commonly known as Jakarta-Palembang 2011, was a Southeast Asian multi-sport event held from 11 to 22 November 2011 in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia. It was Indonesia's fourth time to host the Southeast Asian Games, and its first since 1997. Previously, Indonesia also hosted in 1979 and 1987. The Indonesia men's national basketball team represents the Republic of Indonesia in international basketball competitions. The governing body of the team is the ''Persatuan Bola Basket Seluruh Indonesia'' ( Indonesian Basketball Association – ''PERBASI''). The Perth Wildcats are an Australian professional basketball team based in Perth, Western Australia. The Wildcats compete in the National Basketball League (Australia), National Basketball League (NBL) and play their home games at Perth Arena, RAC Arena, known colloquially as "The Jungle".
