Singapore Turf Club
The Singapore Turf Club was founded in 1842 as the Singapore Sporting Club to operate the Serangoon Road Race Course at Farrer Park Field. It is the only horse-racing club in Singapore and is part of the Malayan Racing Association. The first race was held on 23 February 1843 with a prize money of $150. History In 1924, the Club changed its name to the Singapore Turf Club. The Club moved to Bukit Timah in 1933 before relocating to its present location at the Singapore Racecourse at Kranji in 1999. The racecourse is adjacent to Kranji MRT station. Singapore Turf Club is the only horse racing club and authorised operator for horse racing activities in Singapore. It was founded in 1946 as the Thoroughbred Corporation Association, and was renamed to the Thoroughbred Breeding Agricultural Union in 1948 before being renamed to the current name in 1955. Raffles Cup
The Raffles Cup is a Thoroughbred horse race held annually in the first week of November at Kranji Racecourse in Singapore. Contested on turf over a left-handed course, the domestic Group One race is run over a distance of 1800 metres (1.12 miles / 9 furlongs) and is open to horses age three and older. The Raffles Cup was inaugurated in 1991 at the Bukit Timah Race Course and raced there through 1999 when the track was closed to be replaced by the new Kranji Racecourse. Hong Kong Derby
The Hong Kong Derby is a Hong Kong Thoroughbred horse race held annually since 1873. Restricted to horses four-years-old only since 1981, the race is run in mid-March and is the premier event on the domestic racing programme with a purse of HK$18 million (app. US$2.3 million). This race is the last race in the Hong Kong Four-Year-Old Classic Series. The first Hong Kong Derby was raced at Happy Valley Racecourse but in 1979 was transferred permanently to its present location at Sha Tin Racecourse.
