Sindoor (1947 Film)
''Sindoor'' is a 1947 Hindi social film directed by Kishore Sahu. The film was produced Sasadhar Mukherjee Productions for Filmistan and had the actor Mehmood in one of his early films. The story, dialogues and part of the lyrics were written by Kishore Sahu. One of the lyricists was Qamar Jalalabadi, with music composed by Khemchand Prakash. The film starred Kishore Sahu, who played the hero, with Shamim Bano, Paro Devi, Gulab, Mehmood, Pratima Devi, Sushil Sahu and Moni Chatterjee. The film revolves around the social issue of widow remarriage and was cited as being of "social relevance". The theme of widow remarriage was considered "controversial" in the 1940s, with the film stated to be bold in showing the hero accepting the widow at the end of the film. The climax scene, according to a report in the ''Illustrated Weekly of India'' is "remembered" even now, with Sahu being cited as a "socially conscious film-maker". Kishore Sahu
Kishore Sahu (22 November 1915 – 22 August 1980) was an Indian actor, film director, screenwriter, and producer. He appeared in 22 films between 1937 and 1980, and he directed 20 films between 1942 and 1974. His directorial venture Kuwara Baap was one of the winners for the BFJA - Best Indian Films Award for best film for 1943. His film ''Raja'' has been called "a milestone of art and skill in motion pictures". His film ''Veer Kunal'' was a huge box office success. He directed Dilip Kumar with Kamini Kaushal in Nadiya Ke Paar, which became the sixth highest grossing Indian film of 1948. His 1954 film Mayurpankh was entered into the 1954 Cannes Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Grand Prize of the Festival. Sawan Aya Re did well commercially, with Baburao Patel of ''Filmindia'' remarking in the 9 May 1949 edition that Sahu's estimate had risen due to the "original treatment" he gave to an "otherwise ordinary" story. Shamim Bano
Shamim Bano (also commonly termed 'Shamim' or 'Bano Begum') (29 July 1920 – 23 October 1984), was a film actress and singer in Indian and Pakistani Cinema. She starred alongside Dilip Kumar in his debut film '' Jwar Bhata''.Not to be confused with another, later Pakistani film actress Shamim Ara She was the wife of famed Pakistani film director and producer Anwar Kamal Pasha, and thus daughter-in-law of poet, writer and scholar Hakim Ahmad Shuja. Khemchand Prakash
Khemchand Prakash (12 December 1907 – 10 August 1949) was a music composer in the Hindi film industry. He had few peers in 1940s, the decade for Indian film music which started with Saigal very active on the scene and ended with Lata Mangeshkar firmly established in the industry. Lata had fruitful association with him (in films ''Asha, Ziddi, Mahal'') when she started making a name for herself. Many years after Khemchand Prakash's death, the ace composer Kamal Dasgupta rated him the best composer. Khemchand's brother, Basant Prakash, was also a film composer. It started publication in 1880 (as ''Times of India'' Weekly Edition; later renamed as ''The Illustrated Weekly of India'' in 1923) and ceasing publication in 1993. Also simply known as ''Weekly'' by its readership, ''The Illustrated Weekly of India'' was considered to be an important English-language publication in India for more than a century.
