Silver End
Silver End is a village in Braintree, Essex, in England. It was conceived as a model village by the industrialist Francis Henry Crittall who established a Crittall Windows Ltd factory there to manufacture components for metal windows. History Crittall, or "The Guv'nor" as he was known to his workforce, had a vision to provide his workforce with houses and amenities in close proximity to his window factory. Thus over six years from 1926 Silver End village was built. In 1928, a large department store was opened with 26 various departments under one roof; burnt down in 1951, it was re-built and today houses the Co-op and adjacent shops. The village hall boasted a first class dance floor, cinema, library, snooker room and health clinic. It is the largest village hall in the UK. Braintree is a local government district in the English county of Essex, with a population (2011 census) of 147,084. Its main town is Braintree. The three towns of the district are Braintree, Halstead and Witham. The district was formed on 1 April 1974 by the merger of the urban districts of Braintree and Bocking, Halstead, and Witham and (for list of parishes) Braintree Rural District and Halstead Rural District. Alec Hunter Academy
Alec Hunter Academy (formerly The Alec Hunter County Secondary School for Boys and Girls, Alec Hunter Comprehensive School, Alec Hunter High School and Alec Hunter Humanities College) is a secondary school with academy status located in East Braintree, Essex, England. History The school opened as a technical school in 1959, and it was named after the weaver and textile designer Alec Hunter (died 1958). It had become a humanities college by 2009, when the school celebrated its 50th anniversary. In that year, local historian David Possee was writing a book on the history of the school when he died; however Braintree Museum hosted an exhibition about the school. In 2013 the school converted to an Academy by joining Saffron Academy Trust and is now part of a group of schools/academies, Saffron Academy Trust. Liverpool Street station, also known as London Liverpool Street, is a central London railway terminus and connected London Underground station in the north-eastern corner of the City of London, in the ward of Bishopsgate Without. The Braintree branch line is a railway branch line in the East of England that diverges from the Great Eastern Main Line at and runs north-west to . The route is in length and there are five stations, including the two termini. Eastern National was a bus company operating in south-east England, primarily in Essex, from 1929 to the 1990s. Early history Eastern National Omnibus Company commenced operating in 1929 as a joint venture between the London and North Eastern Railway, the London, Midland and Scottish Railway and the National Omnibus & Transport Company.
