Signe Danning
Signe Thora Aas Danning (August 25, 1878 – February 10, 1980) was a Norwegians, Norwegian actress from the silent film era. Danning was born in Oslo, Kristiania (now Oslo). She was engaged with the Den Nationale Scene, National Stage in Bergen from 1897 to 1906, and it was there that she met the Danish composer Christian Danning. They married in 1902 and moved to Kristiania in 1906, where she played at the Fahlstrøm Theater and at a theater in Oslo's Tivoli amusement park. After four silent films, they relocated to Odense, Denmark in 1914. Following her husband's early death in 1925, she lived at the Grayfriars Monastery (Odense), Grayfriars Monastery retirement home in Odense. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. ''Fattigdommens forbandelse'' (The Curses of Poverty) is a Norwegian silent film that premiered at the Kosmorama Theater in Kristiania (now Oslo) on October 7, 1911. The film is considered the first Norwegian feature film, and was also announced as "the first Norwegian art film" (''Den første norske kunstfilm''). It was directed by Halfdan Nobel Roede, who also directed the films '' Under forvandlingens lov'' (1911), ''Alt for Norge'' (1912), and '' Hemmeligheden '' (1912). The film is considered lost, and so its exact content is not known, but the film was described as a "a mini-drama on the shady side of life in three acts" (''minodrama paa Livets Skyggeside i 3 Akter''). ''Hemmeligheden'' (The Secret) is a Norway, Norwegian silent film from 1912 that is considered lost. Plot The film was a drama in which a young woman from a coastal town gets to know an artist from Paris. They start a relationship and she has a daughter. The young woman, Elise, leaves, and on the steamship home to Norway she throws the child overboard. When she returns home, she marries Lieutenant Almeng. It turns out that the child she threw overboard did not die, but was found by a fishing couple, who have adopted the child. One day, Elise and the lieutenant meet the fisherman, and Elise breaks down and tells her husband the story of what happened. The lieutenant first takes the matter very sternly, but when he sees how unhappy this has made Elise, he goes to the fisherman and retrieves his wife's daughter, and he promises to treat her as though she were his own child. It is the oldest known surviving Norwegian film, and it was directed by Halfdan Nobel Roede. The film has been characterized as an erotic melodrama, and it premiered in Kristiania (now Oslo) on December 4, 1911. The script for the film was written by Peter Lykke-Seest under the pseudonym ''Søløvenskjold Pedersen''. In 1992, Gunnar Iversen claimed that Roede's lost 1912 silent film '' I frihetens bur'' (In the Cage of Freedom) is actually the same film as ''Under forvandlingens lov''.
