Siegerrebe (literally "Victory vine" in German) is a white wine grape that is grown primarily in Germany with some plantings in England, Vancouver Island,Jancis Robinson ''Vines, Grapes & Wine'' pg 253 Octopus Publishing 1986 Washington state,R. Madeleine Angevine
Madeleine Angevine is a white wine grape from the Loire Valley in France that is also popular in Germany, Kyrgyzstan and Washington state. The early-ripening grape is a cross between Madeleine Royale and Malingre Précoce grapes that grows well in cooler climates. Madeleine Angevine makes an attractive fruity wine with a flowery nose, similar to an Alsatian Pinot blanc. Puget Sound AVA
The Puget Sound AVA is an American Viticultural Area in western Washington State. It is the only AVA in the state of Washington that is located west of the Cascade Mountains. Note that in 2019 there is a committee working to establish a southwestern WA AVA. Geography and climate The AVA encompasses the entire Puget Sound area from the Canada–US border to just south of Olympia. Rainfall in the Puget Sound AVA ranges from to annually, which is similar to many European grape growing areas and the Willamette Valley AVA in Oregon. Most of that rainfall occurs in the winter time. Summers are mild, sunny and dry. Irrigation is a necessity in some of the drier locations. Gewürztraminer
Gewürztraminer () is an aromatic wine grape variety, used in white wines, and performs best in cooler climates. In English, it is sometimes referred to colloquially as Gewürz (; although this is never the case in German, because "Gewürz" means "herb" or "spice"), and in English and French it is written (without the umlaut). Gewürztraminer is a variety with a pink to red skin colour, which makes it a "white wine grape" as opposed to the blue to black-skinned varieties commonly referred to as "red wine grapes". The variety has high natural sugar and the wines are white and usually off-dry, with a flamboyant bouquet of lychees. Indeed, Gewürztraminer and lychees share the same aroma compounds. Georg Scheu
Georg Scheu (21 June 1879 in Krefeld, Rhine Province, Germany – 2 November 1949, in Alzey, Rhineland-Palatinate), was a German botanist, plant physiologist, oenologist and grape breeder. Biography Georg Scheu completed horticultural training in Hanover and worked as a horticultural technician in Munich and Schierstein. Around 1900, he went to the Geisenheim Grape Breeding Institute in the Rheingau and then completed his training at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute in Bydgoszcz (German: ''Bromberg''). It was during this time that Georg Scheu developed his love of the vine and viticulture, which led him to Alzey in 1909 as a district orchard technician. There he was appointed by the committee of the Chamber of Agriculture for the province of Rheinhessen as the first head of the newly founded vine nursery. Oechsle Scale
The Oechsle scale is a hydrometer scale measuring the density of grape must, which is an indication of grape ripeness and sugar content used in wine-making. It is named for Ferdinand Oechsle (1774–1852) and it is widely used in the German, Swiss and Luxembourgish wine-making industries. On the Oechsle scale, one degree Oechsle (°Oe) corresponds to one gram of the difference between the mass of one litre of must at 20 °C and 1 kg (the mass of 1 litre of water). ''Trockenbeerenauslese'' (literal meaning: 'dried berry selection') is a German language wine term for a medium to full body dessert wine. ''Trockenbeerenauslese'' is the highest in sugar content in the ''Prädikatswein'' category of the Austrian and German wine classifications. ''Trockenbeerenauslese'' wines, often called "TBA" for short, are made from individually selected grapes affected by noble rot (i.e., botrytized grapes).
