Sibu Rural District Council
Sibu Rural District Council (''Malay: Majlis Daerah Luar Bandar Sibu'') (MDLBS or SRDC) is a local authority which administers Sibu rural areas such as Sibu Jaya and Selangau District. The agency is under the purview of Ministry of Local Government & Housing Sarawak (MLGH). The establishment of this council is to provide basic amenities, public infrastructure, and professional services to the population under its jurisdiction. History The roots of SRDC can be dated back to 1940s where it was known as "Dayak Local Authority" which was under the chairmanship of Penghulu Imai. Its members were made up of Iban local chiefs of Sibu. The name was changed to "Local Authority Sibu" after it was put under the administration of British Colonial Officers. Administration SRDC currently administers part of the Sibu District and Selangau District covering a total area of 6,000 km2. Sibu
Sibu (; Foochow Romanized, Hokchew Romanized: ''Sĭ-bŭ'') is a landlocked city in the central region of Sarawak. It is the capital of Sibu District in Sibu Division, Sarawak, Malaysia. The city is located on the island of Borneo and covers an area of . It is located at the confluence of the Rajang River, Rajang and Igan Rivers, some 60 kilometres from the South China Sea and approximately north-east of the state capital Kuching. Sibu is mainly populated by people of Chinese descent, mainly from Fuzhou. Sarawak

Ibans
The Ibans or Sea Dayaks are a branch of the Dayak peoples on the island of Borneo in South East Asia. Dayak is a title given by the westerners to the local people of Borneo island. It is believed that the term "Iban" was originally an exonym used by the Kayans, who – when they initially came into contact with them – referred to the Sea Dayaks in the upper Rajang river region as the "Hivan". Ibans were renowned for practicing headhunting and territorial migration, and had a fearsome reputation as a strong and successfully warring tribe. Since the arrival for Europeans and the subsequent colonisation of the area, headhunting gradually faded out of practice, although many other tribal customs and practices as well as the Iban language continue to thrive. The Iban population is concentrated in the state of Sarawak in Malaysia, Brunei, and the Indonesian province of West Kalimantan. The Sibu Municipal Council (Malay: ''Majlis Perbandaran Sibu'', abbreviated SMC or MPS) is the municipal council which administers the district of Sibu in the state of Sarawak, Malaysia. History Sibu Municipal Board Sibu Municipal Board was founded on 31 January 1925 during the period of Kingdom of Sarawak. Resident of the third division of Sarawak was the chairman of the municipal board. The municipal officer at that time was Sibu District Officer. Other members of the municipal board includes Sibu Divisional Engineer, Superintendent of Sibu Lands & Surveys, and Sibu Divisional Medical Officer.
