Show Me Shorts
Show Me Shorts is an international short film festival held in Auckland and other venues across New Zealand. It screens a selection of short films from New Zealand and around the world in cinemas nationwide each spring. Each year approximately 60 top short films are selected and contend for awards. The festival awards are then presented to the top filmmakers at the opening night and awards ceremony in Auckland. Show Me Shorts is New Zealand's first Academy Awards-accredited festival, with the Best Film and Best International Film award winners becoming eligible for nomination for the Oscars. The programme covers a diverse range of themes and subjects including documentary, sci-fi, horror, drama, animation and comedy. Since 2014, a music video competitive category has been included. There are a number of supporting events such as a lab for screenwriters and filmmaker talks for aspiring filmmakers that run as part of the festival. Armağan Ballantyne
Armağan Ballantyne (born 7 August 1972) is a New Zealand film director. She is best known for her feature films ''The Strength of Water'' (2009) and ''Nude Tuesday'' (2022). Biography Ballantyne was born in Wellington in 1972. Her first name is Turkish language, Turkish, and was the name of a family friend. In 1996, Ballantyne directed the music video for Emma Paki's "Don't Give It Up", which won an award. Afterwards, Ballantyne studied film in Sydney and Prague. From 2001 to 2002, Ballantyne worked a director for the New Zealand youth television series ''Being Eve''. In 2009, she released her debut feature film ''The Strength of Water''. Anapela Polataivao
Anapela Polataivao is a New Zealand actor, writer, and director of stage and screen. Background Polataivao was born in Samoa and has heritage from Vailoa, Vaiusu, Fagae'e and Safune. She grew up in South Auckland. Career Polataivao began acting as a child with her role at the age of eight. She was part of the Maidment Youth Theatre at the University of Auckland and in 2000 graduated from the New Zealand drama school Toi Whakaari with a Bachelor of Performing Arts (Acting). Tweedie Waititi is a New Zealand film director and producer. The whāngai sister of Taika Waititi, she is best known for her work co-directing production company Matewa Media, which since 2016 has produced Māori language versions of Disney animated films. Biography Waititi grew up in the Te Whānau-ā-Apanui community of Waihau Bay in the Bay of Plenty. A short film is any motion picture that is short enough in running time not to be considered a feature film.
