''Shinola, Vol. 1'' is a compilation album by the American rock band Ween. Released by Chocodog on July 19, 2005, ''Shinola'' is a collection of odds and ends that the band put together over the years. All of the songs on this album were previously released in demo form in some way or another. "Did You See Me?" was originally recorded for ''The Mollusk'' but was not released until it appeared on this album. "The Rift" and "Gabrielle" appeared in the 1992 ''Chocolate and Cheese'' demos. "Tastes Good on Th' Bun" appeared in ''The Pod'' demos of 1990. "I Fell in Love Today" and "Someday" appear in ''Quebecs Caesar Demos, which would not be released until 2011. "Boys Club", "Israel" and "Transitions" have appeared in demo form on various other tapes. Ween is an American Rock music, rock band from New Hope, Pennsylvania, formed in 1984 by Gene Ween, Aaron Freeman and Dean Ween, Mickey Melchiondo, better known by their respective stage names, Gene and Dean Ween. Generally categorized as an alternative rock band, the band are known for their irreverent, highly eclectic catalog of songs inspired by funk, soul music, soul, country music, country, gospel music, gospel, progressive rock, prog, psychedelic music, psychedelia, rhythm and blues, R&B, heavy metal music, heavy metal, and punk rock. Quebec (album)
''Quebec'' is the eighth studio album by the American rock band Ween, released on August 5, 2003, on Sanctuary Records. It was the first album released after the band's contract with Elektra expired, and marked its return to independent labels. On August 11, 2011, Dean Ween quietly released a two-disc, MP3-only collection of songs, ''The Caesar Demos'', named after the band's original working title for ''Quebec''—to friends on his Facebook page. In his comment, he stated the songs were all recorded between 2001 and 2003 while drummer Claude Coleman, Jr. was recovering from injuries sustained in a car accident, and that many of the tracks featured only himself and Gene. In addition to a handful of recordings that eventually made the album, the demos feature several alternate takes as well as a number of songs that have remained unreleased. Emily B. Lazar is an American mastering engineer. She is the founder, president, and chief mastering engineer of The Lodge, an audio mastering facility that has operated in New York City's Greenwich Village since 1997. She won a Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical for Beck's album ''Colors'', becoming the first female mastering engineer to win in this category. Gene Ween
Aaron Freeman (born March 17, 1970), better known by his stage name Gene Ween, is an American singer, guitarist and a founding member of the experimental alternative rock group Ween. Freeman, along with childhood friend Dean Ween (Mickey Melchiondo), started the group in the mid-1980s. Freeman announced his departure from Ween in 2012, shortly after releasing ''Marvelous Clouds'', his first solo album. After leaving Ween, he stopped using the name Gene Ween and performed under his birth name Aaron Freeman. In 2014 he formed a new five-piece band called Freeman. Michael Melchiondo Jr. (born September 25, 1970), better known by his stage name Dean Ween, is an American guitarist, singer and a founding member of the alternative rock group Ween. He is currently active in the groups Ween, Moistboyz and The Dean Ween Group. Biography In 1984, Melchiondo met Aaron Freeman in a junior high school typing class, in their hometown of New Hope, Pennsylvania. ''Craters of the Sac'' is a semi-official, MP3-only album by the American rock band Ween, released in 1999 for free via the internet. Background Because Elektra Records released '' Paintin' the Town Brown'', which was intended to be Ween's first online independent release, Dean Ween leaked the album to the Internet in 1999; Stereogum described it as a "fan-appreciation comp", and AllMusic described it as a "semi-sanctioned boot". The Pod
''The Pod'' is the second studio album by American rock band Ween. It was released on September 20, 1991, by Shimmy-Disc. Production The album was recorded from January to October 1990, at the Pod on Van Sant Road in Solebury Township, Pennsylvania. Recording concluded one month prior to the release of their debut on November 16th. The album was derived from two tapes titled the ''Bilboa'' tape and the ''Big Timmy Wasserman'' tape. Both tapes contain not only demo versions of songs on the album, but many outtakes not used on any album or tracks used on future albums. All of the songs have a muddy quality to them, due to being recorded on a Tascam four-track cassette recorder, and many of the vocals are manipulated in strange ways. ''Chocolate and Cheese'' is the fourth studio album by the American rock band Ween, originally released by Elektra Records in 1994. It was the first Ween album to be recorded in a professional studio, in contrast to the crude four-track home recordings of ''The Pod'' and '' Pure Guava''. However, most of the instruments were still played by Dean and Gene Ween, including their drum machine. Reception and legacy In July 2014, ''Guitar World'' placed ''Chocolate and Cheese'' at #45 in their "Superunknown: 50 Iconic Albums That Defined 1994" list.
