Gene Ween
Aaron Freeman (born March 17, 1970), better known by his stage name Gene Ween, is an American singer, guitarist and a founding member of the experimental alternative rock group Ween. Freeman, along with childhood friend Dean Ween (Mickey Melchiondo), started the group in the mid-1980s. Freeman announced his departure from Ween in 2012, shortly after releasing ''Marvelous Clouds'', his first solo album. After leaving Ween, he stopped using the name Gene Ween and performed under his birth name Aaron Freeman. In 2014 he formed a new five-piece band called Freeman. In 2015, Freeman returned to using the Gene Ween name for his "Gene Ween Does Billy Joel" concerts, saying it was a positive thing: In November 2015, Ween announced a February 2016 reunion for three shows in Colorado, with later dates subsequently announced. Dave Dreiwitz (born January 2, 1966) is a multi-instrumentalist, best known as the bassist for the band Ween since 1997. Biography Dave Dreiwitz was born on January 2, 1966, in New York City, New York to traditional jazz musician parents, Richard and Barbara Dreiwitz. His father plays trombone and his mother plays tuba. In 1983, at the age of seventeen, after a short time on trumpet in Mod Fun, Dreiwitz joined the Hoboken, New Jersey based psychedelic rock band Tiny Lights, his first professional band out of high school. In 1986, while attending Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, he met fellow schoolmate and drummer Scott Byrne and through a love of similar music, they started the rock band Instant Death in 1991. ''Chocolate and Cheese'' is the fourth studio album by the American rock band Ween, originally released by Elektra Records in 1994. It was the first Ween album to be recorded in a professional studio, in contrast to the crude four-track home recordings of ''The Pod'' and ''Pure Guava''. However, most of the instruments were still played by Dean and Gene Ween, including their drum machine. Reception and legacy In July 2014, ''Guitar World'' placed ''Chocolate and Cheese'' at #45 in their "Superunknown: 50 Iconic Albums That Defined 1994" list. ''Pure Guava'' is the third studio album and major label debut by American rock band Ween, released on November 10, 1992 by Elektra Records. Background The album features one of Ween's most well-known songs, "Push th' Little Daisies". The song was also released as a single on August Records in 1993, including both the album and radio edit versions of the song (the latter replacing the word "shit" with a sample of Prince squealing from " Alphabet St."), as well as the tracks "Ode to Rene", "I Smoke Some Grass (Really Really High)" and "Mango Woman"; "Puerto Rican Power" replaces "I Smoke Some Grass" on some editions. Many of the songs on this album come from at least two tapes that the band made for friends, including ones titled ''Springtape'' and ''The Caprice Classic Tape'', as stated by Dean Ween on JJJ radio in 1993. The Pod
''The Pod'' is the second studio album by American rock band Ween. It was released on September 20, 1991, by Shimmy-Disc. Production The album was recorded from January to October 1990, at the Pod on Van Sant Road in Solebury Township, Pennsylvania. Recording concluded one month prior to the release of their debut on November 16th. The album was derived from two tapes titled the ''Bilboa'' tape and the ''Big Timmy Wasserman'' tape. Both tapes contain not only demo versions of songs on the album, but many outtakes not used on any album or tracks used on future albums. All of the songs have a muddy quality to them, due to being recorded on a Tascam four-track cassette recorder, and many of the vocals are manipulated in strange ways.
