Sherri Turner
Sherri Turner (born October 4, 1956) is an American professional golfer. She became a member of the LPGA Tour in 1984 and won three LPGA Tour events, including one major championship, during her career. Amateur career Turner was born in Greenville, South Carolina. She started playing golf at the age of 4. She was the 1974-75 Carolinas Junior champion. She attended Furman University, where she was a medalist at three tournaments, including the Women's Southern Intercollegiate. She was selected to the All-American Team in 1979. Professional career Always one of the longest hitters on Tour, Turner joined the LPGA Tour in 1984. She won three events on the tour, including one major, the 1988 Mazda LPGA Championship. Tammie Green (born December 17, 1959) is an American professional golfer. Amateur career Green was born in Somerset, Ohio. She attended Marshall University, where she played golf and basketball. She won four collegiate events, three during her senior year. She earned low-amateur honors at the 1981 LPGA Wheeling Classic. The 1989 LPGA Tour was the 40th season since the LPGA Tour officially began in 1950. The season ran from January 13 to November 5. The season consisted of 33 official money events. Betsy King won the most tournaments, six. She also led the money list with earnings of $654,132. JoAnne Gunderson Carner (born April 4, 1939) is an American former professional golfer. Her 43 victories on the LPGA Tour led to her induction in the World Golf Hall of Fame. She is the only woman to have won the U.S. Girls' Junior, U.S. Women's Amateur, and U.S. Women's Open titles, and was the first person ever to win three different USGA championship events. Tiger Woods is the only man to have won the equivalent three USGA titles. Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Carol Semple Thompson have also won three different USGA titles. Carner was inducted into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame in 1969. In 1981, Carner was voted the Bob Jones Award, the highest honor given by the United States Golf Association in recognition of distinguished sportsmanship in golf.
