Shelly Centre is a South African shopping centre located in Shelly Beach, KwaZulu-Natal. Shelly Centre serves the Lower South Coast (from Hibberdene to Port Edward). Shelly Centre has 70 stores. History On 23 August 1985, Shelly Centre was opened by residents of the South Coast due to the fact that it was the South Coast's first major shopping mall. It also made Shelly Beach the first place on the Lower South Coast to boast an escalator. In 2015, a multi-million rand upgrade took place at Shelly Centre to modernise the shopping centre as the last upgrade was done in 2003. The upgrade was aimed to create a consistent look and modern feel using wood and natural elements. In 2018, new logo to the shopping centre was introduced. Shelly Beach is a coastal resort town on the South Coast of the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa, located more or less halfway between Margate (8.5 km) and Port Shepstone (7.1 km). Geography Part of the greater Margate area, Shelly Beach including its Central Business District (CBD) lies on a narrow coastal plain towards the coastline whilst further inland the town's altitude rises over a hilly terrain overlooking the Indian Ocean. The CBD itself is typical of small towns as most of the businesses in the district are stringed along the main road, 'Marine Drive'. Ugu is one of the 11 districts of KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. ''Ugu'' is Zulu for "coast". It governs the KZN South Coast and its seat is Port Shepstone. Hibberdene is a small coastal town on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast in South Africa. It was named after C. Maxwell-Hibberd, the former postmaster-general of Natal. Hibberdene is located in the Hibiscus Coast region of the KZN South Coast and is a seaside town situated 97 km south of Durban, halfway between Scottburgh and Margate. Port Edward, KwaZulu-Natal
Port Edward is a small resort town situated on the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. It lies north of the Mtamvuna Gorge which includes the Mtamvuna River and is the border between KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape. It is situated on the R61 road (future N2 Wild Coast Toll Route) between Port Shepstone and Lusikisiki. History In 1831 there was a crisis between the settlers in Port Natal (Durban) and Dingane, the Zulu king. Some settlers boarded a ship that was in the harbour and the others, including Henry Francis Fynn and his family, fled down the coast.
