Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality is a local municipality of South Africa. It is located on the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal. It was established after the August 2016 local elections by the merging of Ezinqoleni and Hibiscus Coast local municipalities. Politics The municipal council consists of seventy-one members elected by mixed-member proportional representation. Thirty-six councillors are elected by first-past-the-post voting in thirty-six wards, while the remaining thirty-five are chosen from party lists so that the total number of party representatives is proportional to the number of votes received. Ezinqoleni Local Municipality was an administrative area in the Ugu District of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. Ezinqoleni is an isiZulu name word meaning "at the wagons". Traffic in the early days was by wagon drawn by donkeys and post carts drawn by mules. There is an acute shortage of basic services and facilities, housing, and employment. First-past-the-post Voting
In a first-past-the-post electoral system (FPTP or FPP), formally called single-member plurality voting (SMP) when used in single-member districts or informally choose-one voting in contrast to ranked voting, or score voting, voters cast their vote for a candidate of their choice, and the candidate who receives the most votes wins even if the top candidate gets less than 50%, which can happen when there are more than two popular candidates. Hibiscus Coast Local Municipality was a local municipality in the province of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. It governed the Hibiscus Coast on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast which attracts tourists from the province and other provinces as well as international tourists. After municipal elections on 3 August 2016 it was merged into the larger Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality. Beaches are to be found along the entire seaboard. KwaZulu-Natal South Coast (better known as the KZN South Coast or just the South Coast) is a region on the southern coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
