Shellharbour, New South Wales
Shellharbour (also known as Shellharbour Village) is a suburb located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. It also gives its name to the local government area, City of Shellharbour, and its central business district, Shellharbour City Centre. The suburb is centred on the small recreational harbour named Shell Harbour. It has two main beaches: Shellharbour Beach, which runs to Barrack Point and Shellharbour South Beach, which runs toward Bass Point. Shellharbour hosts Harbourside Markets on the fourth Sunday of the month, in Little Park. History and culture The area was inhabited by indigenous Australians for thousands of years. European habitation began from about 1817 onwards. Shellharbour was originally known as ''Yerrowah'' and later as ''Peterborough''. Ron Costello
Ron Costello (born 1942) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s. He played for the Western Suburbs Magpies, Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, New South Wales and for the Australian national side. From Shellharbour on the South Coast of New South Wales, Costello went to Shellharbour Public School (1948–1954), and then went to the Western Suburbs Magpies in Sydney and played lower grades in 1964-1965. He was signed by Collegians Wollongong RLFC (Illawarra Division) in 1967 by then coach Kevin Smyth (a former Kangaroo 1963). Collegians won the Club Championship and First Grade Premiership that season with Costello representing New South Wales. John Reid (Australian Politician)
John Thomas Reid (1 August 1873 – 30 December 1963) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1930 until 1963 and a member of the Country Party. Reid was born in Shellharbour, New South Wales and was the son of a dairy farmer. He was educated to elementary level and initially worked as a farm hand. He later became a dairy farmer and was involved in local dairy co-operative organizations in the Casino, New South Wales district before living permanently in Sydney after 1943. He was elected as a Councillor to Kyogle Council in 1920–25 . Reid was elected to the New South Wales Parliament as the Country Party member for the new seat of Casino at the 1930 state election. Michelle Pearl Heyman (born 4 July 1988) is an Australian soccer player and commentator who currently plays for Canberra United in the W-League in Australia. Madeline Heiner (born 15 May 1987) is an Australian runner. She placed fourth in the women's 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Biography Heiner was born in Shellharbour, New South Wales on 15 May 1987.
