John Reid (Australian Politician)
John Thomas Reid (1 August 1873 – 30 December 1963) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1930 until 1963 and a member of the Country Party. Reid was born in Shellharbour, New South Wales and was the son of a dairy farmer. He was educated to elementary level and initially worked as a farm hand. He later became a dairy farmer and was involved in local dairy co-operative organizations in the Casino, New South Wales district before living permanently in Sydney after 1943. He was elected as a Councillor to Kyogle Council in 1920–25 . Reid was elected to the New South Wales Parliament as the Country Party member for the new seat of Casino at the 1930 state election. Shellharbour, New South Wales
Shellharbour (also known as Shellharbour Village) is a suburb located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. It also gives its name to the local government area, City of Shellharbour, and its central business district, Shellharbour City Centre. The suburb is centred on the small recreational harbour named Shell Harbour. It has two main beaches: Shellharbour Beach, which runs to Barrack Point and Shellharbour South Beach, which runs toward Bass Point. The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. The upper house is the New South Wales Legislative Council. Both the Assembly and Council sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. The Assembly is presided over by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. Casino is a town in the Northern Rivers area of New South Wales, Australia, with a population of 10,914 people at the . 1930 New South Wales State Election
The 1930 New South Wales state election was held on 25 October 1930. The election was conducted in single member constituencies with compulsory preferential voting. The election occurred at the height of the Great Depression and was a landslide victory for the expansionary monetary policies of Jack Lang. As a result of the election, the Nationalist/Country Party coalition government of Thomas Bavin and Ernest Buttenshaw was defeated and the Labor party, led by Jack Lang, formed government with a parliamentary majority of 20. The Parliament first met on 25 November 1930, and had a maximum term of 3 years. However it was dissolved after only 18 months on 18 May 1932 when the Governor, Sir Philip Game dismissed the Premier Jack Lang and commissioned Bertram Stevens to form a caretaker government. Ian Robinson (Australian Politician)
Ian Louis Robinson (27 March 1925 – 23 March 2017) was an Australian politician. Born in Coraki, New South Wales, he was educated at state schools before becoming a dairy farmer, a journalist and company director. In 1953 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the Country Party member for Casino, holding the seat until 1963, when he retired to contest the Australian House of Representatives seat of Cowper. Cowper had been won in 1961 by Labor's Frank McGuren, who had defeated the ailing longtime Country Party member and former caretaker Prime Minister Earle Page, who had been too ill to campaign. Robinson defeated McGuren, and became Assistant Minister assisting the Postmaster-General, Alan Hulme, on 20 August 1971. Robinson lost the position when the Coalition was defeated in the 1972 federal election.
