Shanghai East Hospital () is a general hospital in Pudong, Shanghai, China. It is a teaching hospital affiliated to Tongji University. Facilities The Shanghai East (Oriental) Hospital, affiliated to Shanghai Tongji University School of Medicine was founded 1920. Two campuses exist in Shanghai. The main campus ('Northern Division') is located in Lujiazui, Pudong, 150 Jimo Road and the South-Campus ('Southern Division') is located in Pudong, 1800 Yuntai Road. Both locations include 61 clinical and technical departments and offices. The hospital includes 2000 in-patient beds total. Pudong
Pudong is a district of Shanghai located east of the Huangpu, the river which flows through central Shanghai. The name ''Pudong'' was originally applied to the Huangpu's east bank, directly across from the west bank or Puxi, the historic city center. It now refers to the broader Pudong New Area, a state-level new area which extends all the way to the East China Sea. Tongji University School of Medicine (TUSM) is a school of Tongji University in Shanghai. The main campus of TUSM is located on Siping campus at 50 Chifeng Rd, Yangpu, Shanghai. History Tongji University School of Medicine was founded in 1907 by the German doctor Erich Paulon, who established the Tongji German Medical School in Shanghai, China. The foundation was aided by funding from Germany at the beginning. In 1917, the institutions was renamed to Tongji Medical and Engineering School and later Private Tongji Medical and Engineering Specialist School. Lujiazui, also known under its Shanghainese name Lohkatse (, , lit. meaning "[The] Lu (surname 陸), Lu family's mouth"), is a locality in Shanghai, a peninsula formed by a bend in the Huangpu River. Since the early 1990s, Lujiazui has been developed specifically as a new financial district of Shanghai.
