Shan Liu (Tai Po District)
Shan Liu () is a village in the Plover Cove area of Tai Po District, Hong Kong. Administration Shan Liu is one of the villages represented within the Tai Po Rural Committee. For electoral purposes, Shan Liu is part of the Shuen Wan constituency, which was formerly represented by So Tat-leung until October 2021. History Historically, Ting Kok, together with the nearby Hakka villages of Shan Liu, Lai Pik Shan, Lo Tsz Tin, Lung Mei and Tai Mei Tuk belonged to the Ting Kok Yeuk () alliance. Shan Liu was flooded as a consequence of heavy rains in July 2017. About 30 trapped residents were evacuated by Fire Services teams. Plover Cove
Plovers ( , ) are a widely distributed group of wading birds belonging to the subfamily Charadriinae. Description There are about 66 species in the subfamily, most of them called "plover" or "dotterel". The closely related lapwing subfamily, Vanellinae, comprises about 20 species. Plovers are found throughout the world, with the exception of the Sahara and the polar regions, and are characterised by relatively short bills. They hunt by sight, rather than by feel as longer-billed waders like snipes do. They feed mainly on insects, worms or other invertebrates, depending on the habitat, which are obtained by a run-and-pause technique, rather than the steady probing of some other wader groups. Plovers engage in false brooding, a type of distraction display. Examples include pretending to change position or to sit on an imaginary nest site. Tai Po District is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong. Ting Kok
Ting Kok is the name of an area and a village in the northeastern part of Hong Kong. It is located on the northern shore of Plover Cove * Lee Ancestral Hall (). Built in the late 19th century. Not graded. There are more than 10 ancestral halls in the village. Most of them have been modernized. Flora and fauna A mangrove covers a coastal area of about seven hectares near Ting Kok Village. It is one of the few sites in Hong Kong where a large population of '' Lumnitzera racemosa'' can be found.
