Shabakty
The Shabakty ( kk, Шабақты; russian: Шабакты) is a river in southern Kazakhstan. It has a length of and a drainage basin of .Google Earth The river flows across Sarysu District of the Zhambyl Region. There are two inhabited places by the riverbank, Saudakent near the mouth and Aktogay in the upper course. The water of the river is used by local households and for irrigating crops. Course The Shabakty river has its origin in a spring of the northern slopes of the Karatau Range. It heads roughly northwestwards down a canyon with steep sides. The bottom of the river channel is pebbly and the water is fresh and clean. In its final stretch its valley widens and the river bends and flows roughly northwards, parallel to the Ushbas river to the west. Finally the Shabakty ends up in the southeastern shore of Akzhar lake. The river is fed mainly by rain, snow and groundwater. Kyrshabakty
The Kyrshabakty ( kk, Қыршабақты) is a river in southern Kazakhstan. It is a right tributary of the Shabakty, with a length of and a drainage basin of .Google Earth The river flows across Sarysu District of the Zhambyl Region. There are Cambrian limestones by the river that contain a rich variety of trilobites fossils. Course The Kyrshabakty river has its source in springs located in the northern slopes of the Karatau Range, near Baizhansai village. Its upper stretch is also known as Bugun ( kk, Бөген) and heads roughly northwestwards. Midway along its course it bends northwards. The river flows within a gorge, often with steep sides, all along. Finally the Kyrshabakty ends up in the right bank of the Shabakty, not far from Shabakty Railway Junction. Akzhar
Akzhar ( kk, Ақжар; russian: Акжар) is a salt lake group in the Zhambyl and Turkistan regions, Kazakhstan. The lakes lie northwest of Saudakent town and northeast of Kumkent. The Akzhar lake zone includes a Important Bird Area. Geography The cluster of lakes is located in an arid, sandy sector of the Muyunkum Desert to the north of the northern slopes of the Karatau Mountains. The border between the Sozak District of Turkestan Region and Sarysu District of Zhambyl Region runs from the SSW to NNE across the lakes. The lakes are all salty and, although there are considerable seasonal changes in water levels, many are dry most of the year. In between the waterbodies there are sandy dunes or mounds, interspersed with alkaline patches, salt marshes and salt flats. The lakes are scattered over a large area. The Ushbas ( kk, Үшбас) is a river in southern Kazakhstan. It has a length of and a drainage basin of .Google Earth The river flows across Sarysu district of the Zhambyl Region and Sozak District of the Turkistan Region. It has its mouth near Kumkent village. Course The Ushbas river has its origin in the northern slopes of the Karatau Range. It heads roughly northwestwards down a deep mountain valley with steep sides. In its final stretch it bends and flows roughly northwards, parallel to the Burkittі (Бүркітті), a left tributary of the Shabakty river, to the east. Saudakent (), known as ''Baikadam'' until 1993, is a town located in the Sarysu District, Zhambyl Region, Kazakhstan. It is part of Baikadam rural district (КАТО code — 316033100). Aktogay () is a town located in the Sarysu District, Zhambyl Region, Kazakhstan. It is part of Zhanaaryk rural district (КАТО code — 316037200). Karatau Range
The Karatau or Qaratau ( kk, Қаратау жотасы, Qarataw jotasy) is a mountain range located in southern Kazakhstan. The name Karatau means ''Black Mountain'' in the Kazakh language. The mountains have deposits of phosphorite, lead and zinc. Geography The range extends for about in a roughly NW/SE direction just north of the Syrdaria River. The Muyunkum Desert lies to the north of the range. The Karatau is the westernmost prolongation of the Tian Shan. The summits of the mountains are smooth and the slopes are cut by snow-fed rivers. The Shabakty, Ushbas, Bugun and Asa, are among the rivers having their sources in the range. World Heritage Status There are numerous ancient archaeological sites in the range that display the stages of cultural evolution from the early Paleolithic Age (1 million BP) to the Neolithic Age (6500 BP). Sentinel-2 is an Earth observation mission from the Copernicus Programme that systematically acquires optical imagery at high spatial resolution (10 m to 60 m) over land and coastal waters. The mission is currently a constellation with two satellites, Sentinel-2A and Sentinel-2B; a third satellite, Sentinel-2C, is currently undergoing testing in preparation for launch in 2024.
