Separatism In The Philippines
Separatism in the Philippines refers to bids for secession or greater autonomy for certain areas in the Philippines. The scope of the article includes such efforts since the Philippine Revolution both currently and historical. Hashim Salamat
Salamat Hashim, also known as Hashim Salamat, was a Filipino militant who served as leader of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. He is the founder of the group. Early life and education Hashim was born in Midsayap, Cotabato (now Pagalungan, Maguindanao) on July 7, 1939 to a religious family, one of seven siblings. At age six, he was taught by his mother on how to read the Quran. In the 1950s, Hashim received formal elementary and high school education and was an honor student. In the 1958, Hashim joined the Hajj and decided to stay in Mecca to be mentored by Sheikh Zawawi. He was a regular attendee of the ''halaqat'' at the Masjid al Haram. He also underwent studies at the Madrasat as-Sulatiyah ad-Diniyah. The following year, Hashim moved to Cairo to pursue further studies. Nur Misuari ( Tausug: ''Nūr Miswāri'', born Nurallaji Pinang Misuari; March 3, 1939) is a Moro Filipino revolutionary and politician, founder and leader of the Moro National Liberation Front. The Muslim Independence Movement (MIM) was a secessionist political organization in the Philippines. On 1 May 1968, two months after the Jabidah massacre, Datu Udtog Matalam, a former governor of Cotabato, issued a Manifesto for the declaration of the Muslim Independent Movement that sought for an independent Muslim state from the Philippines comprising Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan regions. The organization was later renamed as the Mindanao Independence Movement (still MIM) to assure non-Muslims in Cotabato that they are included in the envisioned state. Ombra Amilbangsa
Sultan Ombra Amilbangsa was a Sultan of Sulu and a Filipino politician. He also served as a member of the House of Representatives of the Philippines and the National Assembly of the Philippines for the Department of Mindanao and Sulu (1934–1935) and Sulu (1935–1938, 1943–1944, 1945–1949, 1951–1961). Amilbangsa filed a House Bill No. 5682 in 1961 before the House of Representatives during the fourth session of the 4th Congress which calls for the granting of independence to the Province of Sulu as a sovereign nation due to what he felt was negligence of the central government over the concerns of his province.
