Scotland
Scotland (, ) is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. Covering the northern third of the island of Great Britain, mainland Scotland has a border with England to the southeast and is otherwise surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the north and west, the North Sea to the northeast and east, and the Irish Sea to the south. Dundee, South Africa
The coal mining town of Dundee is situated in a valley of the Biggarsberg mountains in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (). It is part of the Endumeni Municipality, Umzinyathi District. It is very rich in coal deposits. More populous than the town of Dundee is its adjacent township named Sibongile. This township is now being extended with many residing zones, e.g. Lindelani. Dundee was established by Peter Smith, with land contributed by his son in-law, in 1882 after the realisation that the valley was a natural way for travellers into the interior of Africa. Traders, hunters explorers, missionaries and soldiers all made their way through here. A large fort, Fort Jones, housed British troops in the area during the Anglo Zulu War of 1879. The discovery of coal in the area dates from early Voortrekker records of 1838 and later geological surveys in the 1860s. It is named after the hometown of a pioneering Scottish settler, Peter Smith. Melrose, Johannesburg
Melrose includes several suburbs of Johannesburg, South Africa. It is located in Region E of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. Melrose is a developing up-market suburb. History The suburb has it origins when Henry Brown Marshall purchased land in the north of Johannesburg in 1893. Prior to the discovery of gold on the Witwatersrand in 1886, the suburb lay on land on one of the original farms that make up Johannesburg, called ''Syferfontein''. It was called the Melrose Estate of 713 acres and at the time was 9.7km north of the central business district. He built his home there and planted trees on the land. The suburb was laid out in 1902. Douglasdale, Gauteng
Douglasdale is a residential suburb in Sandton, Gauteng, South Africa. It is located between the suburbs of Fourways and Bryanston. Often confused as a suburb of the Fourways District. The eight lane N1 freeway ( Western Bypass) forms its south eastern boundary. It is in Region C of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. History Douglasdale is built upon Douglasdale Farm, a large farm that was started in 1905 by Thomas Douglas and his wife Janet Alexander who both immigrated to South Africa from Scotland in 1890. They bought the farm on the Klein Jukskei River in Johannesburg and named it the Douglasdale farm. The farmhouse is one of the oldest homes in Sandton and was built in 1905. In 1930 the family started producing milk as a hobby and in 1940 they began to retail their milk producing over 240 bottles of milk a day, by hand. Buccleuch, Gauteng
Buccleuch is a suburb of Sandton, in the Gauteng province of South Africa. History The suburb of Buccleuch stands on one of the old Witwatersrand farms called ''Waterfal''. The farmland had the Jukskei River flowing through it and after the creation of the city of Johannesburg the road to Pretoria, later known as the Old Pretoria Road, also passed through. The farm of 7,030 acres was purchased by John Alexander Gibson, a British immigrant, who owned a coach transport business. The farm was used as a rest area for his businesses horses and mules. When those animals were no longer used as transport the farmland was kept until his death in 1928 when it was divided amongst seven heirs and was sold. A son, Frederick Chapman Gibson, kept 1000 acres but would sell the eastern portion to AECI the owners of the Modderfontein Dynamite factory in 1938 and the portion left, surveyed as a township divided into 170 stands of 3 to 5 acres with 50 stands on the Jukskei River selling for £475 and ... Scots ( endonym: ''Scots''; gd, Albais, ) is an Anglic language variety in the West Germanic language family, spoken in Scotland and parts of Ulster in the north of Ireland (where the local dialect is known as Ulster Scots).
