''Scotland Tonight'' is a Scottish news and current affairs programme, covering the two STV franchise areas of Northern and Central Scotland, produced by STV News. The programme is presented by ''STV News at Six'' Central anchor John MacKay on Mondays & Tuesdays and former Sky News Scotland correspondent Rona Dougall on Wednesdays & Thursday. Details The half-hour programme, which launched on Monday 24 October 2011, replacing the former STV weekly-political programme '' Politics Now''. John MacKay (journalist)
John MacKay (born 13 September 1966) is a Scottish broadcast journalist, television presenter, producer and writer. He currently is a co-anchor for the STV News at Six, alongside Kelly Ann Woodland, having previously served as the chief anchor for the West Central Scotland edition of '' STV News at Six.'' MacKay is a presnter for current affairs programme ''Scotland Tonight''. Born and raised in Glasgow, MacKay attended the University of Glasgow, where he was an editor for the Glasgow University Guardian. He began his career at The Sunday Post newspaper, before trialling for Radio Clyde and later joining BBC Radio Scotland. MacKay joined STV in 1994 as a presenter and reporter for ''Scotland Today''. Halla Mohieddeen (born 13 October 1979) is a Scottish journalist, broadcaster and television presenter. Biography Mohieddeen was born to a Lebanese father and Scottish mother. She studied Interpreting and Translating at the Heriot-Watt University. She previously presented the ''Morning News'' and ''Middle East Matters'' programmes for Paris-based 24 hour international news channel, France 24. Margo MacDonald
Margo Symington MacDonald (''née'' Aitken; 19 April 1943 – 4 April 2014) was a Scottish politician, teacher and broadcaster. She was the Scottish National Party (SNP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Glasgow Govan from 1973 to 1974 and was Deputy Leader of the Scottish National Party from 1974 to 1979. 2013 Glasgow Helicopter Crash
On 29 November 2013, a police helicopter operated by Bond Air Services for Police Scotland crashed into The Clutha, a pub in central Glasgow, killing all three crew on board and seven patrons of the pub. Thirty-one more people in the pub were injured. The subsequent investigation concluded that the cause of the crash was fuel starvation due to incorrect operation of the fuel system. Accident The helicopter took off from its base at Glasgow City Heliport (which at the time operated from Stobcross Quay adjacent to the SECC) at 20:45 on 29 November 2013. The pilot was 51-year-old David Traill; Traill had flown Chinook helicopters in the RAF for 20 years, latterly as an instructor.
