Schipper Naast Mathilde
Schipper naast Mathilde ('' Skipper next to Mathilde'') was a Flemish TV sitcom, broadcast between 1955 and 1963 on the Flemish public service TV station N.I.R. (nowadays the VRT). At the time it was tremendously successful and it is well regarded as the first classic TV series of Flemish television. About 185 episodes were made, but since many of them went live in the air without recording a copy the majority are lost today. Another part was lost in a fire. In 2005 a DVD was made available which contains all the remaining episodes, nine in total. Concept ''Schipper naast Mathilde'' took place in a typical Flemish village. It revolved around a former skipper ( Nand Buyl), his sister Mathilde ( Jetje Cabanier), their adopted daughter Marianne ( Francine De Weerdt, later Chris Lomme), the nosy neighbour Madame Krielemans, the stuttering and posh Philidoor, the stupid Sander and his friend Hyppoliet Maréchal, who tried to talk French, but always made language mistakes. Sitcom
A sitcom, a portmanteau of situation comedy, or situational comedy, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who mostly carry over from episode to episode. Sitcoms can be contrasted with sketch comedy, where a troupe may use new characters in each sketch, and stand-up comedy, where a comedian tells jokes and stories to an audience. Sitcoms originated in radio, but today are found mostly on television as one of its dominant narrative forms. A situation comedy television program may be recorded in front of a studio audience, depending on the program's production format. The effect of a live studio audience can be imitated or enhanced by the use of a laugh track. Critics disagree over the utility of the term "sitcom" in classifying shows that have come into existence since the turn of the century. Flemish (''Vlaams'') is a Low Franconian dialect cluster of the Dutch language. It is sometimes referred to as Flemish Dutch (), Belgian Dutch ( ), or Southern Dutch (). ''HUMO'' is a popular Dutch-language Belgian weekly radio and television supermarket tabloid. History and profile ''Humoradio'' (meaning a portmanteau of 'humor' and 'radio' in English) was first published in 1936 as a Dutch-language counterpart to ''Le Moustique'', now '' Télémoustique''. During World War II between 1940 and 1944 ''Humoradio'' was not published. In 1958, when television started to reach a larger audience in the country, the magazine was renamed as ''Humo''. Johan Anthierens (22 August 1937 – 20 March 2000) was a Belgian journalist, columnist, publicist, critic and writer. He became notorious because of his socially conscious columns, as well as his equally controversial opinions during interviews. He published both in ''HUMO'' as well as ''Knack'' and founded his own short-lived satirical magazine, ' in 1982-1985. The general public got to know him thanks to his television appearances, both as panel member in the quiz ''De Wies Andersen Show'' and as interviewer in the talkshow ''Noord-Zuid'' (''North-South''). Willy Vandersteen
Willy Vandersteen (15 February 1913 – 28 August 1990) was a Belgian creator of comic books. In a career spanning 50 years, he created a large studio and published more than 1,000 comic albums in over 25 series, selling more than 200 million copies worldwide. Considered together with Marc Sleen the founding father of Flemish comics, he is mainly popular in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Hergé called him "The Brueghel of the comic strip", while the creation of his own studio and the mass production and commercialization of his work turned him into "the Walt Disney of the Low Countries".
