Sayavush Hasanov
Sayavush Hasan oglu Hasanov ( az, Səyavuş Həsən oğlu Həsənov) (20 January 1964 – 25 June 1992) was an Azerbaijanian soldier and construction worker who received the National Hero of Azerbaijan award. He was born on 20 January 1964 in the Yengicə village, Sharur District of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. Biography Early life Azerbaijanian independence When voluntary defense battalions were established to protect Garabagh, Sayavush was one of the first ones to join. He fought in many regions of Azerbaijan—Gazakh, Gedebey, Goranboy, Shusha—and performed all the assigned tasks adequately. On 25 June 1992, his battalion was ordered to liberate Girmizikend village from enemy occupation. While the battalion was advancing into the village, they were subjected to heavy fire. Yengicə
Yengicə (also, Yengidzha, Yengija and Yenidzha) is a village and municipality in the Sharur District of Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan. It is located 2 km south-west from the district center, on the Sharur plain. Its population is busy with gardening and farming. There is a secondary school, a music school, a cultural house, a kindergarten, a flour mill, two mosques and a medical center in the village. It has a population of 3,840. The monument was erected in honor of its compatriots who died in The Great Patriotic War. There is also a bust of the National Hero of Azerbaijan Sayavush Hasanov, who was born in this village. Etymology Yengicə (Yengija) is the phonetic form of the name ''Yenicə'' (Yenija). The villages called ''Yenicə'' and ''Yengicə'' were created as a result of the population building new settlements after moving out from the main village, mostly due to deficiency of the soil. Black January ( az, Qara Yanvar), also known as Black Saturday or the January Massacre, was a violent crackdown on the civilian population of Baku on 19–20 January 1990, as part of a state of emergency during the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Martyrs' Lane or Alley of Martyrs ( az, Şəhidlər Xiyabanı), formerly known as the Kirov Park, is a cemetery and memorial in Baku, Azerbaijan dedicated to those killed by the Soviet Army during Black January 1990 and in the First Nagorno-Karabakh War of 1988–1994. History In the closing days of World War I, fighting broke out in Baku as a result of the Russian Civil War, with four groups fighting for control of the area when the Russian Empire collapsed. Fighting each other were the Bolsheviks, Mensheviks, Armenians and Azeris. Many people were killed in the fighting including some from a small British force sent to prevent Baku falling into the hands of the Russians. The Martyrs' Lane site first served as Muslim cemetery for victims of the March Days, March Events of 1918. Goranboy Rayon
Goranboy District ( az, Goranboy rayonu) is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the west of the country and belongs to the Ganja-Dashkasan Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Kalbajar, Tartar, Yevlakh, Samukh, and Goygol. Its capital and largest city is Goranboy. As of 2020, the district had a population of 105,000. During the Soviet era, the region was best known for the oil-cure sanatorium resort of Naftalan, though administratively Naftalan counts as an independent city.
