Yengicə
Yengicə (also, Yengidzha, Yengija and Yenidzha) is a village and municipality in the Sharur District of Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan. It is located 2 km south-west from the district center, on the Sharur plain. Its population is busy with gardening and farming. There is a secondary school, a music school, a cultural house, a kindergarten, a flour mill, two mosques and a medical center in the village. It has a population of 3,840. The monument was erected in honor of its compatriots who died in The Great Patriotic War. There is also a bust of the National Hero of Azerbaijan Sayavush Hasanov, who was born in this village. Etymology Yengicə (Yengija) is the phonetic form of the name ''Yenicə'' (Yenija). The villages called ''Yenicə'' and ''Yengicə'' were created as a result of the population building new settlements after moving out from the main village, mostly due to deficiency of the soil. Sayavush Hasan oglu Hasanov ( az, Səyavuş Həsən oğlu Həsənov) (20 January 1964 – 25 June 1992) was an Azerbaijanian soldier and construction worker who received the National Hero of Azerbaijan award. He was born on 20 January 1964 in the Yengicə village, Sharur District of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. Biography Early life Azerbaijanian independence When voluntary defense battalions were established to protect Garabagh, Sayavush was one of the first ones to join. He fought in many regions of Azerbaijan—Gazakh, Gedebey, Goranboy, Shusha—and performed all the assigned tasks adequately. On 25 June 1992, his battalion was ordered to liberate Girmizikend village from enemy occupation. While the battalion was advancing into the village, they were subjected to heavy fire. Sharur District
Sharur District ( az, Şərur rayonu) is one of the 7 districts of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. The district borders the districts of Kangarli, Sadarak, as well as the Vayots Dzor and Ararat provinces of Armenia and the West Azerbaijan Province of Iran. Its capital and largest city is Sharur. National Hero Of Azerbaijan
The National Hero of Azerbaijan ( az, Azərbaycan milli qəhrəmanı) is the highest Hero (title), national title in the Republic of Azerbaijan. The title was named on 25 March 1992, and the "Qizil Ulduz" Medal awarded as a sign of receiving this title was established by a separate law in 15 July 1992.
