Savithiri (1980 Film)
''Savithiri'' is a 1980 Tamil language drama film directed by Bharathan. A remake of his Malayalam film '' Prayanam'', ''Savithiri'' marked his debut in Tamil cinema. The cast includes Vinoth, Menaka, J. V. Ramana Murthi, Manorama, Nanditha Bose and Master Suresh. The screenplay was written by Padmarajan who also scripted the original film. The music was composed by M. S. Viswanathan with lyrics by Kannadasan. The film was a commercial failure. The film became controversial upon release for the depiction of its principal characters who belong to the Brahmin community. This led to widespread protests by members of the community in Madras. Bharathan
Bharathan (14 November 1946 – 30 July 1998) was an Indian film maker, artist, and art director. Bharathan is noted for being the founder of a new school of film making in Malayalam cinema, along with Padmarajan and K. G. George, in the 1980s, which created films that were widely received while also being critically acclaimed. A train of directors, and screenwriters followed this school onto the 1990s including Sibi Malayil, Kamal, Lohithadas and Jayaraj. Early life He was born at Enkakkad near Wadakkancherry, in present-day Thrissur district of Kerala, India. Malaysia Vasudevan
Vasudevan (15 June 1944 – 20 February 2011), known as Malaysia Vasudevan, was a Malaysian-Indian playback singer and actor in Tamil cinema. Early life Malaysia Vasudevan's parents were from Palakkad. Chattu Nair of Ottappalam and Ammalu of Polpulli, along with their families migrated to British Malaya in search of a livelihood. After a few years, Chattu Nair married Ammalu in an arranged marriage. Vasudevan was born on 15 June 1944 as their eighth and youngest child. Even though he was a Malayali, as was the case with the majority of contemporary South Indian migrants to Malaya then, his surroundings in Malaysia was dominated by the Tamil language and culture.
