Long Creek (Saskatchewan)
Long Creek is a river in central North America that begins in Saskatchewan, flows south-east into North Dakota, and then flows back north into Saskatchewan. It is a tributary of the Souris River. The Souris River drains into the Assiniboine River, which is part of the Red River drainage basin in a region called the Prairie Pothole Region of North America, which extends throughout three Canadian provinces and five U.S. states. It is also within Palliser's Triangle and the Great Plains ecoregion. In 1957, a dam was built on Long Creek near where it meets the Souris River to create Boundary Dam Reservoir. In 1873, the Boundary Commission commission set out from Pembina, Dakota Territory to survey the Canada–United States border. Ambrose–Torquay Border Crossing
The Ambrose–Torquay Border Crossing connects the towns of Ambrose, North Dakota and Torquay, Saskatchewan on the Canada–US border. North Dakota Highway 42 on the American side joins Saskatchewan Highway 350 on the Canadian side. Canadian side The initial customs office was opened at Dupuis in June 1909, but was relocated closer to the border at Marienthal a month later. The two communities were in close proximity. Torquay ( 2016 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Cambria No. 6 and Census Division No. 2. It was named after Torquay in Devon, England. History Torquay was established in 1912 when the land was sold to the Canadian Pacific Railway for $2,400. At the suggestion of a railroad superintendent's wife, the area was named after the English town of Torquay as like its namesake, it had an abundant water supply. The Ambrose-Torquay Border Crossing that connects Torquay with the North Dakota village of Ambrose opened in 1915 and remains in daily use today. North Dakota Highway 42 (ND 42) is a north–south highway located in northwestern North Dakota. The highway traverses northern Williams and Divide Counties. The southern terminus is at ND 50 near Corinth and the northern terminus is a continuation as Saskatchewan Highway 350 (Hwy 350) at the Canadian border.
