Sasabe, Aragon
Sasabe (or Sasave), a small place near Jaca in Huesca province, Aragon region, Spain is an ermitage that became a former semi-itinerant bishopric and is now a Latin Catholic titular see. Ecclesiastical history The Ermita de San Adrián de Sasabe ( es, Monasterio de San Adrián de Sasabe), a former hermitage or monastery in Sasabe, established in the 9th century, of which only the small Romanesque church now survives, was one of three monasteries (along San Juan de la Peña and San Pedro de Siresa) near Jaca where, as well as in that city, the itinerant 'Bishops of Aragon' (or of Huesca or of Jaca) used to reside, who held the apostolic succession of the Ancient Diocese of Huesca after its destruction in the Moorish conquest. In 922 a bishopric was established, suffragan of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Tarragon, with the title Diocese of Sasabe (Curiate Italian) / Sasaben(sis) (Latin adjective), assigning territory split off from the Diocese of Pamplona. Jaca
Jaca (; in Aragonese: ''Chaca'' or ''Xaca'') is a city of northeastern Spain in the province of Huesca, located near the Pyrenees and the border with France. Jaca is an ancient fort on the Aragón River, situated at the crossing of two great early medieval routes, one from Toulousse to Santiago de Compostela and Pau to Zaragoza. Jaca was the city out of which the County and Kingdom of Aragon developed. It was the capital of Aragon until 1097 and also the capital of Jacetania. Giacomo Guido Ottonello (born 29 August 1946) is an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who has spent his career in the diplomatic service of the Holy See. He was Apostolic Nuncio to Slovakia from 2017 to 2021 and Nuncio to Ecuador from 2005 to 2017. Biography Giacomo Guido Ottonello was born in Masone, in the Province of Genoa, on 29 August 1946. He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Acqui on 29 June 1961. On 25 March 1980 he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See, working in Pakistan, El Salvador, Lebanon, France, Spain and Poland. He earned a licentiate in canon law and then studied at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy. He earned a doctorate in theology at the Pontifical Lateran University. The Order of Augustinian Recollects (OAR) is a mendicant Catholic religious order of friars and nuns. It is a reformist offshoot from the Augustinian hermit friars and follows the same Rule of St. Augustine. History The Order was founded in 16th-century Spain as a separate province of the Augustinian friars, under their own Vicar General. Through the 5th Determination of the Chapter of Toledo, it was decided that: Their reform emphasized fidelity to the Rule of St. Augustine.
