Sarah Potts (curler)
Sarah Potts ( Lang; born September 21, 1989) is a Canadian curler. She currently plays lead for the Krista McCarville rink. Potts is a three-time Scotties Tournament of Hearts medallist, winning bronze representing Ontario in 2010 and silver representing Northern Ontario in 2016 and 2022. Career Potts started curling at the age of 7. She represented Northern Ontario at the 2008 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, playing third for Ashley Miharija. The team finished the round robin with an 8–4 record and lost in a tiebreaker to Saskatchewan's Stephanie McVicar. Potts was the alternate for Krista McCarville's Ontario team at the 2010 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, winning bronze. The following season, she fully joined the team at lead. The team lost in the 3 vs. 4 page playoff game at the 2010 Canada Cup. They were runner-ups at the 2011 Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts, losing the final to Rachel Homan. 2022 Players' Championship
The 2022 Players' Championship, Princess Auto Players' Championship was held April 12–17 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto, Ontario. It was the fourth Grand Slam of Curling, Grand Slam and final major of the 2021–22 curling season, following the cancellation of the Open (curling), Meridian Open. Despite feeling ill in the final due to food poisioning, Anna Hasselborg led her team to their seventh Grand Slam title, and completed a career Grand Slam, becoming the first women's team to do so. Qualification The top 16 ranked men's and women's teams on the World Curling Federation's world team rankings qualified for the event. Lead (curling)
In curling, the lead is the person who delivers the first two stones of the end for their team. On most teams, where the lead does not act as skip or vice, the lead will sweep for each of their teammates shots. Because of the free-guard-zone rule, which prevents leads from removing most of an opponents guards, leads are usually proficient at throwing guards and draws, and throw few takeouts or other power shots. World Curling Tour
The World Curling Tour (WCT) is a group of curling bonspiels featuring the best male, female, and mixed doubles curlers in the world. History The World Curling Tour was founded by former World Champion Ed Lukowich, with later assistance from John Kawaja. The World Curling Tour commenced in 1992, with men's events only at first. It replaced the "Canadian Curling Tour" held the previous season. The first season consisted of 48 events (with only one outside Canada), and was sponsored by Seagram's distillery. Teams earned points in every event with the top 30 qualifying for the season ending " V.O. Cup", today known as the Players' Championship. Its first president and CEO was Lukowich. Rachel Homan
Rachel Catherine Homan (born April 5, 1989) is a Canadian international curler. Homan is a former Canadian junior champion, a three-time Canadian national champion, and the 2017 world champion, all as a skip. She was also the skip of the Canadian women's curling team at the 2018 Winter Olympics. During her junior career, Homan competed in two Canadian Junior Curling Championships, placing second in 2009 and winning the championship in 2010. She also won a silver medal at the 2010 World Junior Curling Championships. Throughout her women's career, Homan has medalled at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the Canadian women's national curling championships, seven times, winning gold three times (2013, 2014, and 2017), silver three times (2019, 2020, and 2021), and bronze once (2015). The 2010 Canada Cup of Curling was held December 1–5, 2010 at the Medicine Hat Arena in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Page Playoff System
The Page playoff system is a playoff format used primarily in softball and curling at the championship level, the Indian Premier League and Pakistan Super League cricket tournaments. Teams are seeded using a round-robin tournament and the top four play a mix of a single-elimination and double-elimination tournament to determine the winner. Stephanie Marguerite Schmidt (born November 1, 1989 as Stephanie McVicar in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian curler, artist, and designer from Regina, Saskatchewan. She currently plays third on Team Nancy Martin. Design career Schmidt received a bachelor's degree in Design at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and a minor in Illustration, completed at Rhode Island School of Design 2013. In 2013, Schmidt would intern for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and assist in designing the 101st Grey Cup and the set of Sasktel's Rider Coaches Show. Curling career Juniors Schmidt made her first national curling debut skipping at the 2007 Canada Winter Games. Schmidt and team would finish 4th overall. Ashley Sippala (born Ashley Miharija, January 21, 1987) is a Canadian curler. Sippala currently plays front-end on the Krista McCarville rink. Career Sippala's first major curling event was when she played third for Mike Assad's Northern Ontario team at the 2008 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. The team finished 6–5. Sippala skipped Team Northern Ontario at the 2008 Canadian Junior Curling Championships.
