Santiago-Batuco Commuter Rail
The ''Santiago-Batuco commuter rail'' is a commuter rail line under construction in the Chilean capital Santiago, projected to open in 2024. Background The original Santiago–Valparaíso railway line opened in 1863 via Batuco, and closed to passengers in 1987. In May 2019 Chile's president, Sebastián Piñera announces plans for a commuter rail line running north from Quilicura, on an extension of Santiago Metro Line 3, to Batuco and eventually Tiltil. The Ministry of Transport states that a basic engineering study was completed for the scheme in December 2017. The ministry also stated it was due to respond in July 2019 to an environmental evaluation that commenced at the end of the 2017. Quinta Normal Metro Station
Quinta Normal is an underground metro station on the Line 5 of the Santiago Metro. It is one of the largest metro stations in Santiago, Chile and provides access to Quinta Normal Park and Museum of Memory and Human Rights. Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado (abbreviated EFE, lit. ''State Railway Company'') is the national railway and the oldest state-run enterprise in Chile. Santiago–Valparaíso Railway Line
The Santiago–Valparaíso railway is a railway line linking the Chilean capital city Santiago with the port city of Valparaíso. History The existing rail line between Santiago and Valparaíso was opened in 1863, and is long, single-track and designed to avoid steep gradients through mountainous terrain. Passenger service ceased on this line in 1987, and freight traffic almost non-existent since then. Proposals have existed since the 1990s to build a more direct line between the two cities for passengers and freight. The section from Valparaíso to Limache was doubled and put underground in Viña del Mar as part of the Valparaíso Metro. Santiago Metro Line 3
Line 3 is a rapid transit line of the Santiago Metro. Traveling from La Reina in the east towards the center, and Quilicura in the North, Line 3 was originally intended to open in the late 1980s, but the 1985 Algarrobo Earthquake hampered its construction, and a subsequent urban explosion in Puente Alto and Maipú (in the far southeast and mid-southwest respectively) further put its construction on hold, until in the early 2010s construction started. The first phase of the project includes 18 stations, which were completed and opened to the public on 22 January 2019. The second phase, composed of a three-station extension towards the main square of Quilicura, should open by 2023. Its color on the map is chocolate. Tiltil
Tiltil or Til-Til is a Chilean municipality and city, in the Chacabuco Province, Santiago Metropolitan Region. Tiltil is most known for being an execution place for rebels during Chile's independence war against Spain. Manuel Rodríguez was executed in Tiltil.
