Santa Maria Del Sepolcro, Potenza
The Santa Maria del Sepolcro is a gothic-style architecture church located on Via Pretorio 109 in the town of Potenza, region of Basilicata, Italy. The church is located at the crossing of two Roman roads, and is the locale where tradition holds that the St Gerard of Potenza, then bishop of the town, transmuted water into wine. A church was erected in the early 12th century by the Knights Templar, but was placed under the bishop in 1314. Gothic Architecture
Gothic architecture (or pointed architecture) is an architectural style that was prevalent in Europe from the late 12th to the 16th century, during the High and Late Middle Ages, surviving into the 17th and 18th centuries in some areas. Gerard Of Potenza
Saint Gerard of Potenza, also Gerard La Porta ( it, Gerardo di Potenza, ''Gerardo La Porta'') (d. 30 October 1119) was a Roman Catholic saint and a bishop of Potenza in Italy. Life Gerard was born in Piacenza into a noble family. He travelled into southern Italy in search of holy sites, but when he reached Potenza he decided to dedicate himself to the apostolic life. Such was his drive that when the bishop died, the people and clergy chose Gerard as his successor. He was proclaimed bishop at Acerenza and was in post for eight years. After Gerard's death Pope Callixtus II declared him a saint ''viva voce'' in 1120. His relics are kept in a sarcophagus in Potenza Cathedral, which is dedicated to him. Giovanni Ricca
Giovanni Ricca (1603 - circa 1656) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period in Naples and Southern Italy. Little is known about the painter. He trained as a follower or pupil of Giuseppe Ribera. The painting of ''Santa Caterina of Alessandria'' (circa 1630) at the Palazzo Madama, Turin was attributed by the art historian Giuseppe Porzio to Ricca.
