Sandra Wasserman
Sandra Wasserman (born 10 March 1970) is a former professional tennis player from Antwerp, Belgium. Fed Cup Wasserman became Belgium's youngest Fed Cup player when she lost to Csilla Bartos of Hungary in October 1985 in Japan. She also lost the longest tie-break played by the Belgian Fed Cup team, losing 13–11 to Jennifer Capriati of the United States in 1990 in Atlanta, Georgia after losing the first set 6–0. Results Wasserman won her only doubles title at the Spanish Open in Barcelona, Spain on 25 April 1988, partnering Iva Budařová and beating Anna-Karin Olsson and María José Llorca in the final in three sets. She reached the finals of the singles event at the Clarins Open in Paris, France during its first two years. In 1988, she lost to Sabrina Goleš, and in 1989, she was defeated by Petra Langrová. Steffi Graf defeated Martina Navratilova in the final, 6–4, 4–6, 8–6 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1987 French Open. The 1987 Virginia Slims World Championship Series was the 15th season of the tennis circuit since the foundation of the Women's Tennis Association. It commenced in January, 1987, and concluded in December, 1987 after events. The Virginia Slims World Championship Series was the elite tour for professional women's tennis organised by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). It was held in place of the WTA Tour from 1983 until 1987 and featured tournaments that had previously been part of the ''Toyota Series'' and the ''Avon Series''. Maja Živec-Škulj (born 25 September 1973) is a former professional tennis player from Germany. Biography Živec-Škulj was born in the Slovenian city of Ljubljana, then part of Yugoslavia, but later emigrated to West Germany. She was a member of the West German side, along with Anke Huber and Katharina Düll, which defeated Czechoslovakia to win the Junior Fed Cup in 1989. Her junior career also included a quarter-final appearance in the girls' singles at the 1991 Australian Open and she featured as well in the women's singles main draw for the first time that year. Biography Sandin won the girls' singles title at the 1979 French Open, with a win in the final over American Mary-Lou Piatek. Rungsted, also known as ''Rungsted Kyst'' is an affluent suburban neighborhood in Hørsholm Municipality on the Øresund coast north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The center of Hørsholm is located two kilometers west of Rungsted. At the Øresund coast is Rungsted Harbour, a marina. History The name Rungsted is first recorded in 1346 in the form ''Runæstigh''. The Barcelona Ladies Open was a tennis tournament for women held in Barcelona in Catalonia (Spain) and was played on outdoor clay courts. It was an International-level tournament on the WTA Tour with total prize money of $220,000. The tournament began in November 2003 as a $10,000 challenger event on the ITF Women's Circuit. Prize money was increased to $25,000 the following year; in 2005, the event was moved to October with the prize money increasing to $75,000. In 2007, the tournament was upgraded to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, becoming a Tier IV played in June, and remained in this classification through 2008. Since 2009, the event has been held in April. In 2013 the event was cancelled due to financial reasons and replaced on the tour by the Nuremberg Cup in Nuremberg, Germany, held the week before Roland Garros. Katerina Georgieva Maleeva ( bg, Катерина Георгиева Малеева; born 7 May 1969) is a former top 10 Bulgarian tennis player. She won eleven singles and two doubles WTA Tour titles. Her best position in the WTA rankings was No. 6 in 1990. Biography Born in Sofia, Maleeva is the second oldest of the three children of Georgi Maleev and Yuliya Berberyan. Her mother came from an Armenian family, which found refuge in Bulgaria after the 1896 Armenian massacres in the Ottoman Empire, and was the best Bulgarian tennis player in the 1960s. After she retired from professional tennis in the 1970s, Berberyan started a coaching career. She was the coach of her three daughters, Katerina, Manuela and Magdalena, each of whom eventually became WTA top 10 players. Steffi Graf defeated Gabriela Sabatini in the final, 6–3, 3–6, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 1988 US Open. It was her first US Open singles title and fifth major title overall.
