Rungsted
Rungsted, also known as ''Rungsted Kyst'' is an affluent suburban neighborhood in Hørsholm Municipality on the Øresund coast north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The center of Hørsholm is located two kilometers west of Rungsted. At the Øresund coast is Rungsted Harbour, a marina. History The name Rungsted is first recorded in 1346 in the form ''Runæstigh''. The name may be derived from Old Danish ''runi'' meaning and ''sti 'svinesti', later changed to ''sted''. Alternatively the first part of the name may refer to the small waves that are characteristic of the Øresund. Rungsted's inn, Rungsted Kro, is first mentioned in the beginning of the 16th century but it is probably much older. The inn moved in 1803, and the buildings were renamed Rungstedlund. Marina Rungsted Marina has room for approximately 800 boats. It is home to many restaurants, including a MASH steakhouse and a Sticks'n'Sushi. Rungstedlund
Rungstedlund, also known as the Karen Blixen Museum, is a country house in Rungsted on the Øresund coast just north of Copenhagen, Denmark, notable for its association with the author Karen Blixen, who lived there for most of her life. She was born on the estate in 1885, and returned there after her years in Kenya, chronicled in her 1937 book ''Out of Africa'', to do most of her writings. The property is today managed by the Rungstedlund Foundation as a writer's house museum. History The property traces its history back to 1520 when it was owned by the Crown. The oldest part of the current house dates from about 1680 when it was a combined inn and agricultural estate. Notable guests who stayed at the inn include Ludvig Holberg and Johannes Ewald. Ewald lived there from 1773 to 1775 and wrote many of his poems, including ''The Delights Of Rungsted. An Ode''. Karen Blixen
Baroness Karen Christenze von Blixen-Finecke (born Dinesen; 17 April 1885 – 7 September 1962) was a Danish author who wrote works in Danish and English. She is also known under her pen names Isak Dinesen, used in English-speaking countries, Tania Blixen, used in German-speaking countries, Osceola, and Pierre Andrézel. Blixen is best known for ''Out of Africa'', an account of her life while living in East Africa Protectorate, Kenya, and for one of her stories, ''Babette's Feast (short story), Babette's Feast'', both of which have been adapted into Academy Awards, Academy Award–winning motion pictures. She is also noted, particularly in Denmark, for her ''Seven Gothic Tales''. Rungsted Ishockey Klub is a Danish ice hockey club from Rungsted. The elite team is called ''Rungsted Seier Capital''. History The club was founded in 1941. Nordsjælland Cobras The Nordsjælland Cobras was the elite team for Rungsted Ishockey Klub and played in the top Danish ice hockey league AL-Bank Ligaen. After filing for bankruptcy at the end of the 2009-2010 season, the team was excluded from the following season. They changed name from the Rungsted Cobras to the Nordsjælland Cobras in 2004, but they are still based in Rungsted. The team won the Danish national championship in 2003. According to the club, the shortfall is due to sponsorship money that has not been paid due and the current economic crisis has left club owners unable to cover the shortfall. Hørsholm
Hørsholm () is an urban area on the Øresund coast approximately north of Copenhagen, Denmark. It covers most of Hørsholm Municipality and straddles the borders neighbouring Fredensborg Municipality and Rudersdal Municipality. Hørsholm proper is developed around Hirschholm Palace, which was constructed in the 1730s, but the town has later absorbed several of the nearby communities that are of much older origins. History Palace and market town Hørsholm was founded in connection with the construction of Hirschholm Palace. Niels Eigtved created a plan for a residence town in 1737 and to stimulate its growth, it was given status as market town in 1739. Dagmar Julie Augusta Hansen (12 November 1871 – 13 April 1959), a Danish cabaret-singer and stage-performer, became a national sensation as Denmark's first "pin-up girl". Johannes Ewald
Johannes Ewald (18 November 174317 March 1781) was a Danish national dramatist, psalm writer and poet. The lyrics of a song from one of his plays are used for one of the Danish national anthems, ''Kong Christian stod ved højen mast'' which has equal status of national anthem together with ''Der er et yndigt land''. Quite until the days of romanticism, Ewald was considered the unsurpassed Danish poet. MASH ("Modern American Steak House") is a chain of high-end steakhouses based in Copenhagen, Denmark. History The first Mash steakhouse opened on Bredgade in Copenhagen in 2009. In 2012, a Mash restaurant opened in a building owned by Crown Estates on Brewer Street in London's Soho neighbourhood. Dorete Bloch
Dorete Bloch, married name Dorete Bloch Danielsen, (14 June 1943 in Rungsted – 28 February 2015 in Tórshavn) was a Danish zoologist, former director of (the Faroes Natural History Museum), editor of ''Fróðskaparrit'' and author of numerous books on the animals and plants of the Faroe Islands. Career Dorete Bloch was born in Rungsted and attended Viborg Katedralskole until 1962 and then Aarhus University. After graduating in 1970 with an MSc in zoology, she worked at the university's Wildlife Research Station at Kalø, where she conducted research into hares and mute swans. In 1974 she moved to the Faroe Islands, where she settled for the rest of her life, and was appointed a lecturer at the University of the Faroe Islands. Christoffer Boe
Christoffer Boe (born 1974) is a Danish film director and screenwriter. He is an established and well-known not only in Denmark, but all through the world. Among his international awards there are FIPRESCI Director of the Year at San Sebastián International Film Festival and Golden Camera at Cannes Film Festival in 2003.
