Same-sex Marriage In Andorra
Same-sex marriage in Andorra will become legal on 17 February 2023. Andorra first established stable unions on 23 March 2005, providing same-sex couples with some of the rights and benefits of marriage, and later enacted civil unions on 25 December 2014, offering a greater set of rights. On 21 July 2022, the General Council voted to open civil marriage to same-sex couples. The law was promulgated by Co-Prince Emmanuel Macron on 17 August 2022, and will come into effect six months later (i.e. 17 February 2023). Stable unions On 21 February 2005, the General Council passed a bill legalising "stable unions". The Andorran passport is issued to Andorran citizens for international travel. Although citizens of Andorra are not EU citizens, they can nonetheless use the lanes for EU and EFTA citizens when crossing the external borders of the Schengen Area instead of using the desks for third-country nationals.
