Samantha Briggs
Samantha "Sam" Briggs (born 14 March 1982) is an English CrossFit athlete best known for winning the CrossFit Games in 2013. She has qualified for the CrossFit Games seven additional times: in 2010, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2021. She finished four of her seven appearances in the top 5 overall. Briggs lived and trained in Miami, USA for the 2015 CrossFit season, but now resides in her native England. Before she found CrossFit in 2009, she competed in amateur-level duathlons, triathlons, and football in the Northern Premiership League (as a centre midfielder or centre-back). She worked as a firefighter with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Briggs then took a sabbatical to concentrate on CrossFit fulltime. In the sport of association football, a defender is an outfield position whose primary role is to stop attacks during the game and prevent the opposition from scoring. 2020 CrossFit Games
The 2020 CrossFit Games was the 14th CrossFit Games held on October 23–25, 2020, at the CrossFit Ranch in Aromas, California, United States. Mathew Fraser and Tia-Clair Toomey were again the respective winners of this year's men and women competitions The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 forced major changes to the Games season, including the postponement and relocation of the Games. The format was altered, and only 30 men and 30 women were invited to compete in an online-only first stage with the top five men and women qualifying for the final stage to compete in person. There were no teams, masters, or teens events. The Games returned to live broadcast on CBS Sports after the 2019 Games when only online streaming was available. 2014 CrossFit Games
The 2014 CrossFit Games were held on July 22–27, 2014 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, and were the eighth edition of the Games. The CrossFit Games are an annual competition to determine the "Fittest on Earth" and feature workouts designed using the CrossFit program. Rich Froning Jr. was the men's winner, while Camille Leblanc-Bazinet of Canada won the women's event, and CrossFit Invictus won the Affiliate Cup. This year's Games were tightly contested after Rich Froning Jr. who started well faltered in a few events. He finished strongly with three straight event wins in the final day to clinch a record fourth consecutive title. 2018 CrossFit Games
The 2018 CrossFit Games was the 12th CrossFit Games and held on August 1–5, 2018, at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin, United States. The men's competition was won by Mathew Fraser, the women's by Tia-Clair Toomey, and CrossFit Mayhem Freedom won the Affiliate Cup. A record number of entries was reported for this year's Open, with over 415,000 athletes registering to compete. The Regionals were adjusted this year to reflect the growth of the sport worldwide. Tia-Clair Toomey
Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr (born 22 July 1993) is an Australian weightlifter and CrossFit Games athlete. She is the most dominant athlete at the CrossFit Games, having won six times at the competition. She also won the gold medal in the women's event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast. Toomey also competed in the women's event at the 2016 Summer Olympics and came in 14th. At the CrossFit Games, Toomey was runner-up in 2015 and 2016, before becoming winner of the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 CrossFit Games. Mat Fraser (athlete)
Mathew Edward Fraser (born 1990) is a retired Canadian-American professional CrossFit athlete, competing from 2014 to 2020. Fraser is the first athlete to have won five CrossFit Games titles, winning the 2016 CrossFit Games, 2016, 2017 CrossFit Games, 2017, 2018 CrossFit Games, 2018, 2019 CrossFit Games, 2019, and 2020 CrossFit Games consecutively. He is widely considered to be the most dominant and successful individual male athlete in the sport of CrossFit. Fraser has a background in Olympic weightlifting and was a junior national champion. Alethea Boon
Alethea Boon is an athlete from New Zealand. She represented New Zealand in artistic gymnastics at the 1998 Commonwealth Games and the 2002 Commonwealth Games, and in weightlifting at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Boon was born in Suva, Fiji, and grew up in Auckland, New Zealand. She competed in artistic gymnastics, attending two Commonwealth Games, and studied exercise science at Brigham Young University while continuing to compete while at university. She retired at the age of 24. In 2010, Boon suffered a blockage in the arteries of her lungs after surgery and she was initially unable to walk due to lack of breath. Sacroiliac Joint
The sacroiliac joint or SI joint (SIJ) is the joint between the sacrum and the ilium bones of the pelvis, which are connected by strong ligaments. In humans, the sacrum supports the spine and is supported in turn by an ilium on each side. The joint is strong, supporting the entire weight of the upper body.
