Salthill-Knocknacarra () is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Salthill and Knocknacarra areas in Galway City, Ireland. The club is a member of the Galway GAA. Salthill-Knocknacarra GAA Club caters for huge numbers of young boys and girls and adults who play Football, Hurling, Ladies Football and Camogie in the parishes of Salthill and Knocknacarra. History The club was founded in 1966 under the banner of Cumann Naomh Ciarán. During the 1980s the Club became a major underage force in Galway football under the guidance of Club greats such as Tony Regan and Liam Sammon. This resulted in over ten championships at both minor and U-21 levels being won. This underage success was then transferred onto the Senior stage in 1990 with the Club winning its first Senior football county title followed by a Connaught Club title. Galway Senior Football Championship
The Galway Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition between the top Gaelic football clubs in Galway. The winners of the Galway Championship qualify to represent their county in the Connacht Senior Club Football Championship, the winners of which go on to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. The winning team is presented with the Frank Fox Cup. Alan Kerins
Alan Kerins (born 1977) is an Irish sportsman, humanitarian, social entrepreneur and philanthropist. Kerins was a dual player for Galway, a hurler between 1997 and 2011 and a footballer between 2001 and 2004. He played with the senior inter-county team until 2011. Kerins played hurling with his local club Clarinbridge and football with Salthill-Knocknacarra. He is also founder and CEO of The Inner Winner Institute, a personal development training company. Early life Kerins's mother runs a B&B in Clarinbridge. His father Monty was a significant presence as a coach of hurling in Galway and was a selector for the county's minor and senior teams. Finian Hanley
Finian Hanley (born 4 January 1985) is a former Gaelic football player from Galway. He played his club football with Salthill-Knocknacarra and inter-county football for Galway from 2005 to 2017. He played in the full-back position. In 2008 he was nominated for an All Stars Award. Inter-county In 2005, Hanley was a member of Galway's Under-21 All-Ireland winning team, winning the final against Down with inspired performances from Michael Meehan, Barry Cullinane and club team-mate Seán Armstrong. After being a key figure in Galway's successful Minor and Under-21 teams of recent years, Hanley made his Senior debut against Mayo in the 2005 Connacht SFC Final. Aonghus Callanan
Aonghus Callanan (born 1985) is an Irish sportsman. He played for the Galway senior hurlers from 2005 to 2013. He plays club hurling with Liam Mellows and his gaelic football with Salthill-Knocknacarra. Callanan plays his club hurling with his local Liam Mellows club in Galway. All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football tournament which began in season 1970–71. It is the top-tier competition for the senior football clubs of Ireland and London. The current champions are Kilcoo of Down who defeated Kilmacud Crokes of Dublin on 12 February 2022 to win their first title. The current trophy is the Andy Merrigan Cup, named after a footballer who played for Castletown Liam Mellows and Wexford who died as a result of a farm accident at the height of his playing career. Seán Armstrong
Seán Armstrong (born 20 March 1986) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer from Galway. Armstrong played his club football with Salthill-Knocknacarra and inter-county football for Galway from 2005 to 2014 spending ten years as an inter-county footballer. Career Seán was a key part of Galway's Under 21 All-Ireland triumph of 2005. He formed a devastating partnership with Michael Meehan in the final as they scored 6-03 between them in a 6–05 to 4–06 victory over Down to claim the title. Michael Donnellan (Gaelic Footballer)
Michael Donnellan (born 28 February 1977) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played at senior level for the Galway county team. He is the son of former politician and footballer, John Donnellan and grandson of politician and footballer Michael Donnellan. All of them captained the Galway football team in their careers. Playing career Donnellan first came to prominence as a member of the talented St Jarlath's College in Tuam team of the early nineties. He played a crucial role in their Hogan Cup winning season of 1994, alongside future Galway team-mates Declan Meehan, Tomás Meehan, John Divilly, Tommy Joyce and Pádraic Joyce. They reached the Connacht final the following year but lost out to their biggest rivals, St. Patrick's College, Tuam. Maurice Sheridan
Maurice Sheridan (born 1974) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer. His league and championship career at senior level with the Mayo county team lasted nine seasons from 1995 until 2003. Playing career Sheridan made his debut on the inter-county scene when he was picked for the Mayo under-21 team. He won back-to-back Connacht medals in this grade, however, an All-Ireland medal remained elusive. Sheridan made his senior debut during the 1995 championship. He was a regular on the starting fifteen over much of the next decade and won three Connacht medals and one National Football League medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. Gary Cox (Gaelic Footballer)
Gary Cox is a Gaelic footballer from County Roscommon, Ireland. He first came to prominence with the Roscommon Junior team that won Connacht and All Ireland titles in 2000 along with future Senior stars like Karol Mannion and Shane Curran. The following year he was part of the Roscommon side that won the Connacht Senior Football Championship. He plays his club football with the St Faithleach's club. Gavin Duffy (born 18 September 1981) is an Irish sportsman. Duffy is a former international rugby union footballer who primarily played at full back. He last played professionally for Irish provincial side Connacht Rugby, in the Pro12, and represented Ireland at full international level. Duffy also plays Gaelic football, and was previously part of the wider Mayo county team. He had previously represented the county at under-age level. Robert Finnerty (born 1998) is a Gaelic footballer who plays for Salthill-Knocknacarra and at senior level for the Galway county team. Part of the Galway senior panel since 2017, he played for Galway in the 2016 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship final and the 2017 All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship final. He has played Sigerson Cup football for NUI Galway and is the son of Anthony Finnerty, who played for Mayo. Liam Sammon
Liam Sammon (born 1946 in Galway) is an Irish former Gaelic football manager, coach, writer and former player. He played football with his local clubs Father Griffins and Salthill-Knocknacarra and was a member of the senior Galway county team from 1966 until 1979. He won an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship in his first year with the team, 1966. He won All Stars in 1971 and 1973. Sammon later served as manager of the senior Galway inter-county team from 2007 until 2009. Playing career Minor and under-21 Sammon first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a member of the Galway minor football team in the early 1960s. He later progressed to the Galway under-21 football team. In 1965, he lined out in the provincial under-21 decider with Mayo providing the opposition.
