Salim Chishti
Salim Chishti (1478–1572) () was a Sufi saint of the Chishti Order during the Mughal Empire in India. Biography The Mughal Emperor Akbar came to Chishti's home in Sikri to ask him to pray for a male heir to the throne. Chishti blessed Akbar, and soon the first of three sons was born to him. He named his first son 'Salim' (later emperor Jahangir) in honor of Chishti. A daughter of Sheikh Salim Chishti was the foster mother of Emperor Jahangir. The emperor was deeply attached to his foster mother, as reflected in the ''Jahangirnama'' and he was extremely close to her son Qutb-ud-din Khan Koka who was made the governor of Bengal and Orissa. His eldest son, Saaduddin Khan, was ennobled Saaduddin Siddiky and was granted three jagirs in the Gazipur District of Amenabad, Talebabad and Chandrapratap. Fatehpur Sikri
Fatehpur Sikri () is a town in the Agra District of Uttar Pradesh, India. Situated 35.7 kilometres from the district headquarters of Agra, Fatehpur Sikri itself was founded as the capital of Mughal Empire in 1571 by Emperor Akbar, serving this role from 1571 to 1585, when Akbar abandoned it due to a campaign in Punjab and was later completely abandoned in 1610. The name of the city is derived from the village called ''Sikri'' which occupied the spot before. An Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) excavation from 1999 to 2000 indicated that there was a habitation, temples and commercial centres here before Akbar built his capital. The region was settled by Sungas following their expansion. It was controlled by Sikarwar Rajputs from the 7th to 16th century CE until the Battle of Khanwa (1527). Mukarram Khan
Mukarram Khān Chishtī was the Subahdar of Bengal during the reign of Mughal emperor Jahangir from 1626 to 1627. Prior to this, he had served as the Thanadar of Bhawal, governor of Koch Hajo, Sardar of Sylhet and Subahdar of Orissa. Background Mukarram was the son of Shaykh Badi Bayazid, who was later known as Mu'azzam Khan. The Shaykh was a grandson of Salim Chishti of Fatehpur Sikri. Mukarram's paternal grandmother milk-nursed Jahangir on his birth. In 1596, Shaykh Bayazid became a mansabdar of 400 and later of 2,000 soldiers. At the ascension of Emperor Jahangir, the Shaykh became a mansabdar of 3,000 and given the title of Mu'azzam Khan on the 1st of Jumada al-Thani. He then became the Subahdar of Delhi Subah and in 1608, a mansabdar of 4,000 soldiers and 200 horses. He is buried in Fatehpur Sikri. Mukarram's brothers were Abd as-Salam and Muhi ad-Din Shaykh. Islam Khan V
Islam Khan V (died 21 Safar 1147 AH/1734 AD) was one of the prominent Emir and nobleman during the Mughal empire. He was titled "Islam Khan" and "Barkhurdar Khan" by Emperor Bahadur Shah I and held many important posts during the successive rules of Bahadur Shah I, Jahandar Shah, Farrukhsiyar, Rafi ud Darajat, Shah Jahan II and Muhammad Shah. Biography Barkhurdar Khan II aka Mian Kheesa was the son of Barkhurdar Khan I and great-grandson of Islam Khan I. Barkhurdar Khan II was Mansabdar Punj Hazari (5,000) and also entitled "Islam Khan" by Shah Alam I and had Mansab "Darogha Dīwān-e-Khās" (Superintendent of the Diwan-i-Khas) and Khalat-e Fakhra and Khalat-e Barani. Islam Khan I
Shaikh Alauddin Chisti (1570–1613; known as Islam Khan Chisti) was a Mughal general and the Subahdar of Bengal. He transferred the capital of Bengal from Rajmahal to Dhaka and renamed it Jahangirnagar. He was awarded the titular name of Islam Khan by Mughal emperor Jahangir. Early life Islam Khan was a playmate of Jahangir in childhood. Khan and Jahangir were foster cousins; Khan's paternal aunt, whose father was Salim Chisti, had been the foster mother of Jahangir. Qutubuddin Koka was Khan's first cousin also. He was first appointed as the Subahdar of Bihar. Subahdar of Bengal Islam Khan was appointed the Subahdar of Bengal in 1608.
