Salhus, Hordaland
Salhus is an urban settlement in the borough of Åsane in Bergen municipality, Vestland county, Norway. Salhus is located approximately north of the city centre of Bergen. Salhus sits along the shore of the Salhusfjorden on the northern part of the Bergen Peninsula. The village area is located along Norwegian County Road 564, just east of the European route E39 highway and the southern end of the Nordhordland Bridge. Name Salhus comes from the Old Norse word ''"Sálúhusn"'' which means the place with an innkeeper, and it is possible that the name has a connection with the many "Sálúhus" that King Øystein Magnusson had put up for the road travelers. Vinskvetten
Vinskvetten (previously known as Salhus Vinskvetten) is a Norwegian music and comedy troupe. History The group was formed in 1975 as part of a local comedy revue (Nornarevyen (Salhus Revy og Teater)), and has ever since been based in Salhus, north of Bergen in Norway. The group's name is a parody of another well known band from the same area, Salhuskvintetten. They first gained national fame in 1983, when they made the TV program ''Livet i Rothålå'' (Life in ''Rothålå''), a mockumentary about the fictional town of Rothålå. This production would stay with both the band and its fans for the remainder of their career, and the band often use the town and its inhabitants as basis for their songs. In the late 1980s the band began recording their material, and their first two albums, released in 1988 and 1991, both went gold in Norway. Salhuskvintetten OLKABILAMO was a band from Salhus, Åsane in Bergen, Norway formed in 1950 by Monrad Holm Johnsen. History Monrad Holm Johnsen came from Sandviken to Salhus in 1930 and became active in both sports and in the local man's choir. He started a band for a revue. This was the beginning of the band, and he wanted to continue. The three women in the band quit, but the rest wanted to continue, and they formed Salhuskvintetten, although they didn't have a name at the beginning, and were called "Cowboygjengen" (Cowboygang) or "Salhus Cowboys". It took 12 years before they became famous. In the start they just played on special occasions and in the yearly review in Salhus, but after they played "Singel og Sand" on radio in 1962 they turned into pop stars. Salhus Church
Salhus Church ( no, Salhus kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bergen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the Salhus neighborhood in the city of Bergen. It is the church for the Salhus parish which is part of the Åsane prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, stone church was built in a long church design in 1924 using plans drawn up by the architect Ole Landmark. The church seats about 320 people. History In 1916, a cemetery was established at Salhus. Soon after, the parish decided to build a chapel at the cemetery. Ole Landmark was hired as the architect for the new building. Nordhordland
Nordhordland is a traditional district in the western part of Norway. The district consists of the northern portion of the old Hordaland county (now in Vestland county), north of the city of Bergen. It includes the municipalities Alver, Austrheim, Fedje, Masfjorden, Modalen, Osterøy, and Vaksdal. The district roughly corresponds to the Nordhordland prosti, a Church of Norway deanery and also to the municipalities that fall under the Nordhordland District Court. The Textile Industry Museum is a museum in Salhus, Bergen, Norway. It is within the former knitwear factory Salhus Tricotagefabrik, a national industrial heritage site. The museum was founded in 1992, and officially opened in 2001. It focuses on education, documentation of and research into the Norwegian knitwear- and textile industry.
