Saint Sarkis Church ( hy, Սուրբ Սարգիս Եկեղեցի, ''Surp Sarkis Yekeghetsi'') or Saint Sarkis Church is an Armenian Apostolic Church in the Nor Nork district of Yerevan, Armenia. The construction of the church began in 1998 and was sponsored by Sarkis Gabrellian, an Armenian benefactor from New York City New York, often called New York City or NYC, is the most populous city in the United States. Nor Nork
Nor Nork ( hy, Նոր Նորք, ''Nor Nork'') is one of the 12 districts of Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. It is located at the eastern part of the city. It is bordered by the districts of Nork-Marash, Kentron and Kanaker-Zeytun from the west, Avan from the north and Erebuni from the south. Kotayk Province forms the eastern border of the district. The district is unofficially divided into smaller neighborhoods including the 9 blocks of Nor Nork and the Bagrevand neighborhood. As of the 2011 census, the population of the district is 126,065. Baghdasar Arzoumanian
Baghdasar Arzoumanian (1916 - 2001) ( hy, Բաղդասար Արզումանյան, also Bagdasar, Paghtasar, Paghtassar, Baghdik, Bagdik, Arzumanian, Arzoumanyan, Arzumanyan) was an Armenian architect and designer based in Yerevan, Armenia. He was the author of a large ''corpus'' of civil and religious buildings as well as many smaller design works. Education and background Baghdasar Arzoumanian was born in v. Mutsk (formerly Mazra, Bardzravan) of Syunik Province, Armenia. From 1928 to 1936 he studied at the Technical School after Alexander Tamanyan. In 1938 he was admitted to the Constructions Department of the Institute for Polytechnical Sciences of Yerevan. In 1942 he was recruited into the Soviet army and took part in World War II. He served in the army until 1946 when he returned to Yerevan to continue his studies. He graduated from the Institute in 1949. Grigor Khanjyan
Grigor Khanjyan ( hy, Գրիգոր Խանջյան; 29 November 1926 – 19 April 2000) was a Soviet-Armenian artist, painter, and illustrator. He is most notable for his illustrations of historical novels and poems, and murals and tapestries on historical topics. In 1983 Khanjyan was appointed a member of the highest order of chivalry in Soviet art (only 159 members during Soviet history) – the " People's Artist of Soviet Union". Biography Early years Khanjyan was born in Yerevan, Soviet Armenia. He was the fourth and last child of Sebuh and Verginie - genocide survivors from Yerznka, who settled in Armenia in 1920. Grigor mentioned on several occasions that a doctor had advised his mother, already in relatively advanced age, to get pregnant in order to avoid some health problems and that is the reason for him to be conceived.
