SS Oriana (1959)
SS ''Oriana'' was the last of the Orient Steam Navigation Company's ocean liners. She was built at Vickers-Armstrongs, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England and launched on 3 November 1959 by Princess Alexandra. Originally resplendent with her owners' traditional corn-coloured hull, ''Oriana'' appeared as an Orient Line ship until 1966, when that company was fully absorbed into the P&O group. Faced with unprofitable around-the-world passenger routes, the P&O white hulled ''Oriana'' was operated as a full-time cruise ship from 1973. Between 1981 and her retirement from service five years later, ''Oriana'' was based at Sydney, Australia, operating to Pacific Ocean and South-East Asian ports. Deemed surplus to P&O's requirements in early 1986, the vessel was sold to become a floating hotel and tourist attraction, first in Japan and later in China. Orient Steam Navigation Company
The Orient Steam Navigation Company, also known as the Orient Line, was a British shipping company with roots going back to the late 18th century. From the early 20th century onwards, an association began with P&O which became 51% shareholder in 1919 and culminated in the Orient Line being totally absorbed into that company in 1966. Fremantle Passenger Terminal
The Fremantle Passenger Terminal was built on Victoria Quay, Fremantle in 1960–62, The construction replaced the former cargo sheds located at the site of construction. It was opened in time for arrival of competitors for the Empire Games in 1962. The terminal is the largest in Australia and is the only passenger terminal in Australia capable of berthing two cruise liners simultaneously. RMS Orion
RMS ''Orion'' was an ocean liner launched by the Orient Steam Navigation Company in 1934 and retired from the water in 1963 after carrying about 500,000 passengers. A 23,371 ton passenger ship, the Orion was built to carry 486 first class, 653 tourist class and 466 crew passengers from Europe through the Pacific to Australia. The construction of the ship was documented in Paul Rotha's 1935 film ''Shipyard''. The vessel's sister ship was ''Orcades'', launched in 1936. SS ''Orontes'' was a passenger ship owned by Orient Line. The ship was built in 1929 by Vickers Armstrong at Barrow-in-Furness, England. Its sister ships were ''Orama'' (II), ''Orford'', ''Oronsay'', and ''Otranto'' (II). Orontes was the last of the "Orama" Class and great effort was taken to make the public rooms of ''Orontes'' the best of this class. The name had previously belonged to the ''RMS Orontes'', an earlier ship owned by the Orient Line. Service ''Orontes'' maiden voyage was a Mediterranean Cruise in June 1929.
