S6 (St. Gallen S-Bahn)
The S6 is a railway service of the St. Gallen S-Bahn that provides hourly service between and , in the cantons of St. Gallen and Glarus. A limited number of trains continue from Schwanden to . Südostbahn, a private company primarily owned by the federal government and the canton of St. Gallen, operates the service. Operations The S6 operates hourly between and , using the Rapperswil–Ziegelbrücke and Ziegelbrücke–Linthal lines. Between Rapperswil and the S6 combines with the ''Voralpen-Express'' for half-hourly service. South of Uznach, the S6 and S4 combine for half-hourly service to . Between Ziegelbrücke and Schwanden, the S6 and the S25 of the Zürich S-Bahn combine for half-hourly service. Näfels
Näfels is a former municipality in the canton of Glarus in Switzerland. Effective from 1 January 2011, Näfels is part of the municipality of Glarus Nord. History Näfels is first mentioned in 1240 as ''Nevels''. In 1388, the Swiss Confederates beat the Habsburgs at the Battle of Näfels, a victory that proved to be decisive in the series of Swiss-Austrian conflicts that stretched through most of the 14th Century as, in 1389, a peace treaty was signed at Vienna. The losses were much higher on the Austrian side, with 2,500 Austrians killed and 54 Swiss. The town's ''Slachtkapelle'' was created as a memorial to the men who fell in battle, and the ''Näfelser Fahrt'', a pilgrimage to the site of the battle, has been held in April every year since the battle. Südostbahn
The Südostbahn ( German, literally meaning "South-Eastern Railway") – commonly abbreviated to SOB – is a Swiss adhesion railway company, and a network in Central and Eastern Switzerland. It resulted from the merger of the original SOB with the Bodensee–Toggenburg railway (BT) at the end of 2001. The Schweizerische Südostbahn AG (Swiss South-Eastern Railway SA) is a small private railway jointly owned by the cantonal and federal governments as an Aktiengesellschaft (AG). Ziegelbrücke–Linthal Railway
The Ziegelbrücke–Linthal railway (formerly the Weesen–Linthal railway, also called the Glarnerlinie—Glarus line), is a single-track standard-gauge line in Switzerland. It was opened in two stages and by two railway companies. The line from Weesen via to was opened on 15 February 1859 by the United Swiss Railways (''Vereinigte Schweizerbahnen'', VSB). It was opened with the ––Weesen line. The line from Glarus via to was opened on 1 June 1879 by the Swiss Northeastern Railway (''Schweizerische Nordostbahn''). The Lake Zürich left-bank railway, which was built by the Swiss Northeastern Railway, was extended from Ziegelbrücke to Näfels-Mollis station on 20 September 1875. The ''Voralpen-Express'' (''VAE'') is a named train connecting small to medium-sized cities and villages in Central and Eastern Switzerland, carrying this name since 1992. It is operated by Südostbahn (SOB) and runs every hour between St. Gallen and Lucerne, bypassing Zurich. Its name derives from the fact that it traverses the Prealps ( German: Voralpen). S25 (ZVV)
The S25 is a regional railway line of the S-Bahn Zürich on the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV), Zürich transportation network, and is one of the network's lines connecting the cantons of Zürich with Schwyz, Glarus and St. Gallen. The line was introduced in July 2014, and replaces the less frequent Glarner Sprinter train. History Between 1918 and 2004, there was no direct connection from the canton of Glarus to the city of Zürich. In 2004, the through Glarner Sprinter train was introduced, but financial and technical limitations meant this train only ran every two hours on weekdays, and twice a day on weekends and holidays. It also only reached Linthal, the terminus of the line in Glarus, on weekends and holidays. The S-Bahn is the name of hybrid urban-suburban rail systems serving a metropolitan region in German-speaking countries.
