History Süsskind in the German medieval period was a given name, not a surname, specifically recorded as carried by Jews since the early 13th century. A Jew named Süsskind is recorded as a physician in the hospital of Würzburg in 1218. Süsskind, the Jew of Trimberg ( Middle High German ''Sueskint der Jude von Trimperg'') is one of the minnesingers whose work is compiled in the early-14th-century '' Codex Manesse''. Walter Süskind
Walter Süskind (29 October 1906 – 28 February 1945) was a German Jew who helped about 600 Jewish children escape the Holocaust. He was a member of the ( or ) during the Second World War. Biography Süskind was born in Lüdenscheid in German Empire, Germany as the first child of Hermann Süskind and Frieda Kessler. He had two younger brothers, Karl Süskind (1908) and Alfred Süskind (1911). Süskind initially worked as a manager of a margarine factory in Germany. In March 1938, he fled to the Netherlands with the intention to emigrate to the United States, because of the persecution of Jews by the Nazis. From 1942 until his deportation to Westerbork transit camp, Westerbork, he lived at Nieuwe Prinsengracht 51 in the center of Amsterdam with his wife Johanna Natt (1 November 1906 – 1944) and their daughter Yvonne Süskind. Wilhelm Emanuel Süskind (10 June 1901, Weilheim - 17 April 1970, Tutzing) was a German writer, journalist and translator. Süskind was editorial journalist for politics with Süddeutsche Zeitung. Friedrich Gottlieb Süskind (February 17, 1767 – November 12, 1829) was a German Protestant theologian born in Neuenstadt am Kocher. In 1783 he began his theological studies at the Protestant seminar in Tübingen, later embarking on an extensive journey throughout Germany (1790). Afterwards, he served as "pastor repentant" at Tübinger Stift, followed by a vicariate in Stuttgart (1795). From 1795 to 1798 he served as a ''Diakonus'' (deacon) in Urach. Rabbi Raphael ben Jekuthiel Susskind Cohen, in German Rafael ben Jekutiel Süsskind Kohen ( Lithuania, 4 November 1722 – Altona, 11 November 1803), a kohen, was Chief Rabbi of Altona-Hamburg-Wandsbek from 1775. He was educated at Minsk under Aryeh Löb ben Asher, whose successor as head of the yeshibah of that town he became in 1742. In 1744 he was called to the rabbinate of Rakov, and in 1747 to that of Vilkomir (a town not far from Wilna), where he remained till 1757, when he was called as chief rabbi to Minsk. Six years later he became rabbi and head of the yeshibah at Pinsk. In 1771 he went to Berlin for the purpose of publishing there his work "''Torat Yekutiel''." The scholars of that city received him with enthusiasm and respect, and offered him the rabbinate, which was then vacant, but for some unknown reason he declined the offer. Richard Suskind (May 2, 1925September 14, 1999) was a children's author who participated with author Clifford Irving in creating a fraudulent autobiography of the reclusive entrepreneur Howard Hughes. Suskind was incarcerated for five months of a six-month prison sentence for his role in collaborating with Irving on the hoax. He died in 1999, aged 74, in Woodland Hills Los Angeles County, California, USA. He was portrayed in the 2007 film ''The Hoax'' by Alfred Molina.
