Søndre Katland Lighthouse
Søndre Katland is a coastal lighthouse in the municipality of Farsund in Agder county, Norway. The lighthouse sits on a small island just south of the mouth of the Lyngdalsfjorden, about southeast of the town of Farsund. The tall lighthouse is white and built out of stone and concrete. It was completed in 1878. The light sits at an elevation of above sea level. The light emits a white, red, or green (depending on direction) flash every 5 seconds. The site is only accessible by boat and it is not open to the public. Loshavn
Loshavn is a small port village in Farsund municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located at the mouth of the Lyngdalsfjorden, about south of the town of Farsund. In 1865, there were over 200 residents, but today there are only a handful, with most of the buildings used as hotels and vacation rentals. The village has perhaps the best-preserved wooden buildings along the southern coast of Norway. The place has a history of character, especially from the years of the Gunboat War (1807-1814), the so-called "privateer era" (). During these years, Loshavn was militarized to protect the mainland from any British invasion and some of the residents also ran unauthorized hijacking of British ships with government approval along the coast. Agder
Agder is a county (''fylke'') and traditional region in the southern part of Norway. The county was established on 1 January 2020, when the old Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder counties were merged. Since the early 1900s, the term Sørlandet ("south country, south land, southland") has been commonly used for this region, sometimes with the inclusion of neighbouring Rogaland. is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Lister. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Farsund. Lyngdalsfjorden
Lyngdalsfjorden is a fjord in Agder county, Norway. The fjord begins at the village of Alleen in Lyngdal municipality and it flows southwest into Farsund municipality before emptying into the North Sea just south of the town of Farsund. The wide fjord is fed by the river Lygna at Alleen and it has a couple larger fjords that join the Lyngdalsfjorden. The Åptafjorden joins the Lyngdalsfjorden from the northwest, coming from Sande and Åpta in the Herad Herad is a former municipality that was located in the old Vest-Agder county in Norway. is the administrative centre of Farsund municipality in Agder county, Norway. The town is located near the mouth of the Lyngdalsfjorden, about east of the village of Vanse. Frelserens Church is the main church for the town. The town has a population (2019) of 3,377 and a population density of . The coast of Norway is 100,915 km long and there have been a total of 212 lighthouses along it, but no more than 154 have ever been operational at the same time. The first, Lindesnes Lighthouse, opened in 1655; the newest Lighthouse, Anda, was finished in 1932. The first Lighthouses were private operations, but in 1821 the government made the Channel and Harbor Inspector responsible for Lighthouses in Norway.
