Sèche Island
Île Sèche is an islet in Seychelles. It lies 1.5 km of the eastern point of Ste. Anne Island, and 7.5 km from Mahe. and reaches an elevation of 30 meters. Small, rocky, boulder-strewn and uninhabited, it is the nesting ground of sea-gulls. The island is a granite rock on top of which some low growing trees. The tiny island is also known as Beacon island. About 2.15 km to its south lies some granite rocks called Harrison Rocks, 0.30 acres in size. The Granitic Seychelles are the islands in Seychelles which lie in central position on the Seychelles Bank and are composed of granite rock. They make up the majority of the Inner Islands, which in addition include the coral islands along of the rim of the Seychelles Bank, namely Bird Island and Denis Island. Sainte Anne Marine National Park
Sainte Anne Marine National Park lies about 5 km from Victoria, the capital city of the Seychelles, and encompasses eight small islands. History The Marine Park was created in 1973 for the preservation of wildlife, the first of its kind in the Indian Ocean. Seychelles is divided into 26 districts. All but one are located on the Inner Islands; the Outer Islands (''Zil Elwannyen Sesel'') make up the most recent district. Indo-Seychellois
__NOTOC__ Indo-Seychellois are inhabitants of Seychelles with Indian heritage. With about 10,000 Indo-Seychellois in a total Seychellois population of nearly 100,000, they constitute a minority ethnic group in Seychelles. Origins The first Indo-Seychellois were south Indians, who were brought as slaves along with Africans, by the fifteen French colonists in 1770. Later, as colonial plantations and road construction work started, a larger group was brought in not as slaves, but as indentured labourers (called ''coolies''). The colonial era arrival records of Indo-Seychellois were not well kept. Those available suggest ships brought Indians to work, and many returned to India when their work contract expired.
