Hanna Sawicka
Hanka Sawicka, real name Hanna Krystyna Szapiro, pseudonym ''Hanka'' (born 19 December 1917 in Kraków, died 18 March 1943 in Warsaw) was a Polish communist of Jewish background active in the Polish underground, represented in Polish People's Republic propaganda as the first leader of the Union of Youth Struggle. Life Her parents were Maria and Bernard Szapiro. Her father was a member of PPS Lewica, a socialist party, as well as an uncle of the writer Stefan Kisielewski. In 1931 they moved to Warsaw, where Hanna finished school and studied law. In 1935 she became an activist of the 'Związek Niezależnej Młodzieży Socjalistycznej „Życie” (Union of Independent Socialist Youth). In the first days of the Nazi occupation, Sawicka organised help for political prisoners and published the first underground publication entitled 'Wolność' (Freedom). Kalonymus Kalman Shapira (or Klonimus Kalmish Szapiro) (or "Shapiro," a more common transliteration of the Polish spelling of his name "Szapiro") (20 May 1889–3 November 1943), was the Grand Rabbi of Piaseczno, Poland, who authored a number of works and was murdered by the Nazis during the Holocaust. Dina Blond (1 March 1887 - 1985) was a prominent member of the Jewish Labour Bund in Poland and a prolific Yiddish translator. She translated over 30 works of world literature into Yiddish from German, English, and Russian. She was born Shayne-Feygl Szapiro in Vilna, then a part of the Russian Empire. In the mid-1920s Blond became chairwoman of the Bund's women's organisation, the Yidisher Arbeter Froy (YAF). Willy Schapiro
Salomon Wolf Willy Schapiro (also Szapiro or Schapira) (25 May 1910 in Skala, Poland – 21 February 1944, executed at the fort Mont Valérien), was a Polish Jew, and a soldier in the FTP-MOI French liberation army in the Manouchian group). Youth Schapiro left Poland around 1930 and emigrated to Palestine. He developed a workers' organisation whose aim was to hunt the British power which controlled the region after the dismantling of the Ottoman empire in 1918.
